Connacht Final and place in the last 8 available. Sligo coming into this one on the back of beating Galway. Meanwhile Mayo had the easiest route of any team in the country to a provincial final by beating Leitrim. Still though have to fancy Mayo, semi finalists last year and NFL runner up. Discuss.

I'd have to make Sligo favourites for this one, after their great win over Galway. Mayo, as you said, had only a facile victory over Leitrim going into this one, and haven't had a test since Cork beat them in the league final nearly two months ago now. Also, the loss of goalkeeper Robert Hennelly isn't great for Mayo, given that he was our free-taker last year (though I'd expect David Clarke to be solid between the sticks).

Further injuries to Aidan O'Shea (stomach), Seamus O’Shea (groin), Peadar Gardiner (foot), Aidan Campbell (hip) and Pat Harte (foot) mean that Mayo are a bit weakened going into this one.

Anyone know how Sligo are fixed personnel-wise? I see Balla man (and former Mayo panellist) Alan Costello will be lining out for Sligo, should be interesting.

Sligo played Roscommon in a Connacht final in 2010 thinking all they had to do was turn up and the cup would be theirs.
the whole county was preparing for a week long celebration
that didn't work out so well for them

I hope they are more focussed this time and if they are, then they can win it

According to The Mayo News, he's on the bench for the throw-in on Sunday. Enda Varley also comes in for Alan Freeman in the full-forward line.

Should be a close one.according to Matt Cooper the last 7 Connacht finals have had no more than 2 points in them.

James Horan wouldnt give an interview to TV3 because he wasnt given a guarantee Conor Mortimer wouldnt be mentioned in the interview.Fairly petty from Horan

Whatever confidence Sligo got from beating Galway will have been well and truly devalued by yesterdays game and the realisation that Galway are muck.
Can't see past a Mayo win here although knowing Mayo they'll make hard work of it. Mortimer is little to no loss.

Shocking bad standard of football, someone gonna get a handy quarter final against one of these.

Poor first half.Mayo have missed a shocking amount of chances.I actually think playing against the breeze may suit Sligo, a lot of their kicked passes were overcooked due to the wind that wont happen in the second half.

The first half was poor to say the least. They are lucky it is on TV3. Pat Spillane would have slaughtered them.

Does lighting strike twice?, i doubt it will this year. Cork were caught on the day, missing 3 top forwards, reigning champs fatique etc..this year i couldnt see sligo or Mayo on that evidence causing cork any problems if they were to meet. Cork have the hunger back.

All this fist pumping and posing and diving...Mayo have always been like this. will never win anything til they grow a pair. They are still whinging about 1996, Liam McHale mentioned it again recently.

Poor game, poor standard. Seems to be a free every 30 seconds. Your man commentating is cat-molajan altogether as well. Sligo got their first 4 scores from good well placed long to middle distance foot passes. They seem to have stopped all that since about half way through the first half.

Can see Mortimer's point. If he has been puttin in he effort , can't believe he's not good enough to get into that forward line.
