Let's get the ball rolling:
After a long period without, American have won the last few majors, can they keep the run going?
Lytham is my favourite venue - being the scene of two of Seve's 3 Opens. I can still remember clearly his 65 on the Monday, in 1988 in a shootout with Nick Price, with Faldo watching on.
Lytham is now a bit short as an open venue which will make it into a putting contest unless the weather is really bad. Therefore like Hoylake a few years back when Tiger won easily.
Who are the best putters now?
On the European side, you'd have to say Donald, but unlike Westwood he hasn't featured in many major. Lee, Rory and Paddy's putting probably rules them out, but I'd expect Rory to go low at least one day.
of the US challengers, Tiger stands out a mile, no of the young guns have open form and although Phil went close last year, he hasnt done much recently.
I going to go for a past winner, great putter and already been a major runner-up this year - Louis Oosthuizen. 40/1 with Paddy Power. You read it here first!
Anyone studying the stats closely, looking for tips?

Also looking for tips!! That's a nice price for Oosthuizen might be worth an e/w. I have ruled out Donald or Westwood ever winning a major so might be worth lumping on them! Fancy Paddy to do well but 16 to 20 to 1 prohibitive enough for a guy with his recent track record.

Roll on lads. Seve's chip at 18 in 1988 always reminds me of this course. With the Ryder Cup fast approaching I think a european winner could only rally the troops. Harry with another decent week in Scotland today.

Hey uachtaran and face, if ye are going to back Louis Oosthuizen, he is 50/1 with William Hill, although they are only paying the first five home. Had him when he was 2nd to Bubba. Don't know who I will be backing yet but will post them up before Thursday. Latest odds can be seen here: http://www.oddschecker.com/golf/open-championship/winner

Went with long shots for this major. The 7 places in PP tempted me to do so.
Nicolas Colsaerts @ 80-1 €2.50 e/w
Big hitter who is in good form this year so far.
Anders Hansen @ 125-1 €2.50 e/w
Bit of a long shot but i like Nordic players on Links courses.
Rafa Cabera Bello @ 125-1 €2.50 e/w
The new Spanish star, went well at Wentworth, in the Irish Open and finished strongly last week again.
Tom Watson @ 350-1 €2.50 e/w
Tom seems to go well in the Open so hopefully at that price he places.

You certainly did ol boy :) But that's the great thing about the open, we've had many surprises over the years as well as the legends of the game winning.
A lot of pressure on the English lads but I have a gut feeling one of them could do it. I'm hoping for a European winner to give us some momentum with the Ryder Cup approaching.

It seems like only yesterday that Tom was winning the 1980 Open; I was banged up in hospital at the time.
I think its only academic what the odds are against him placing in the 2012 tournament
Unless its odds against him playing on Sunday.
Still, I suppose if its only €2.50

Right so I changed my mind on phil(even tho they say you should never do that)
I've gone with 3..
G-mac @35's I reckon he will be there or there abouts.track should suit him.
Dufner @40's hasn't played in a while so should be well rested.bit of a gamble!!
Lawrie @66's 2nd time to back him in a few weeks and at that price he's huge value IMO.the course should suit him and he's an all weather player.
I'll be glued to this over the next few days.hoping one of the above will be in contention on Sunday.

Weather is meant to improve as the week goes on. There is usually too much made of a few players comments about the difficulty of the course, i'd expect -12 to win it. I was at the Open in 2001 when Duval won; its a strange links course encircled by red brick houses and a pub.
Els played well that year, I'll have a punt on him, he is coming back to form....

Very unpredictable tournament but i'll lump a couple of quid on Rory to win at 20/1
I also like PPs current odds for Oosthuizen of 45/1 - will also havea small win wager there.
For long shots: Branden Grace @ 125/1 and Retief Goosen @ 110/1. Don't know why these two really, but just to have a few each way bets for the weekend.

Very unlikely it will be anything like -12. The course is a Par 70 so -12 would be 268 or four rounds of 67. David Duval won by three shots on 274 in 2001 in better conditions than have been predicted for this week and the course has also been lengthened since then.

Alexander Noren @125/1, 2 good weeks in a row, and played really well in Birkdale in 2008 for the first 71 holes (bit of a disaster at the last).
Edit: Weather looks like being mostly excellent, very little rain, strongest wind 10mph, so expect good scoring.

Robert Karlsson has withdrawn, tough on his playing partners, Mark Wilson & Brendan Grace, will be held up on every shot for their first 2 rounds, wouldn't fancy either of their chances now.

my favourite tournament of the year. just love watcing it. but as recent results show not too easy to predict. going with three from the start. hopefully get a run to sunday with them.
sergio garcia. one of the worlds most frustratin players but who from tee to green can be brilliant. god links player just needs to stop the mental colapses he suffers every now and then to contend. 45-1
dustin johnson. played well last two opens. proven player in bad conditions stateside and can score well. just needs to keep it a little straight.55-1
charl schwarzel. a major winner has done ok in majors. south africans have a great open record. 66-1
think that mannassero was first reserve was he not

It was already overbooked with 157 players, with Karlsson out it's down to the normal 156, so no replacement. Any more go out they will be replaced.

What’s the difference between a bad
golfer and a bad skydiver?
A bad golfer goes, WHACK! “Fúck!”
A bad skydiver goes, “Fúck!” WHACK!
