A strole for Clare so far , 1-11 to 0-4 ahead at half time. No joy for Ml Ryan from Waterford's young guns. The gale will hardly make that much difference in the second half

A stroll is right, they must of had a breeze advantage there or else this could be a very long night for Waterford.

Wd being beaten all over the field, only for O'Keeffe it would be embarrassing.

Pity, was expecting a close game.

The arrogance on the Clare U21 thread is unreal. If they were winning regularly they d be unbearable. REMEMBER LIMERICK-

Did that Waterford team ever train together,it certainly didn't look like it a disgrace.

Did our forwards have to break sweat at any time, really surprised with Waterford. We'll need to up it big time for Tipp. Should be a really good game

Long spin home tonight , but sadly where Waterford inter / u21 teams it was half expected , despite having good hurlers by name in the line up . Congrats to a far superior Clare team , in every sector of the field they were lording it , deservedly so too . What irks me most is that I was half expecting this kind of result / performance , sad I got it , but thats not an attempt to distract from Clare in any way , well done and best wishes from here ...not the time or forum or be whinging .

Why was it expected? Surely with the likes of SOK, the O'Mahonys, Madigan etc, waterford would have been expected to give a decent account of themselves.

I dont want to get into detail at this time , well done to Clare again , lesson in prep to be learned for the Waterford co.board instead of fretting about being broke and not calling/ allowing training sessions ...people in Waterford tonight blaming one person on lack of training funds for all teams , totally inappropriate too I might add

whatever about funds etc is not an excuse, they had waterford jerseys on their back tonight and they didnt want to know about it, had no heart, hunger or guts out there. plenty of fellas on senior panel getting the best of training all year and they didnt want to know about it. some fellas believed their own hype. apart from socky on goal...

Agree 100% with ya ...not an excuse for the showing , but a lesson to be learned in at least trying to prepare properly for these games ....Im not trying to deflect or mitigate for the performance at all , but the powers that be have to decide , do we want to "participate" or strive to win at different levels .......

I'd encourage anyone , with half an interest in hurling , to go see the Waterford seniors train , see how they're provided for ( or not ) and then imagine what goes into the "lesser" teams ...not in any way excusing tonights showing , but about time people realised whats going on here ...no 100 new sliothars for training etc now ...pity the younger boys carry the can for it . Lets not forget last years minors had to whip round for their bus ...if ever some ignorant know nothing apologists rant here about how good we had it i'll go more nuts !!

Watching us play the last 3 years in U21 has been painful. the 2nd half showing against Tipp last year served as a slight opiate. Questions must be asked some place along the line, cause as many fellow Waterford people I'm of the opinion that the players were there but there's serious lacking's in other departments.

Best of luck to Clare, a fine performance, liquid hurling!!

One thing about Davy is he runs a professional like set up its up to others to pull the purse strings at whatever the limit is.

BTW, i have to say did anyone notice the Clare jerseys 2nite
a mixture of 2 sets. Crossed my mind that Davy blew the budget for the year

So maybe the Waherford hurlers should play golf instead of hurling. I suppose ye'll be calling for Hartley's head now after tonight......

I have been following Waterford since the late 70's and I have to say, of all the hidings and humiliations I have sat through that last night's was the most profoundly depressing. All through the lean years we always produced a A Jim Greene, a Mossy Walsh or a Shiner Ahearne who gave us hope that if we could only fill the 'tail' with well schooled committed hurlers we would have a chance against anybody.

After last night I am back to wondering is there something in the water down here that makes good hurlers bad. Stephen O'Keeffe, the two O'Mahoneys, Gavin O'Brien, Martin O'Neill,Brian O'Halleron,Darragh Fives, Eoin Madigan, Eamonn Murphy, Jake Dillon all have a wealth of experience and an abundance of serious talent. There are senior Waterford teams in the 80's who wouldn't have been a patch on them. Yet they were massacred by Clare in every facet of the game, in every position, for the entire hour. Our forwards made scoring look impossible, our defenders made scoring look easier than cricket.

How can this be the same players who have impressed for club and county up to now? I am sick to death of hearing about bad managers and lousy county boards. I refuse to believe that it is any different in most other counties eg Clare, who were well drilled, hurling fit, honest and sharp. My congratulations to all involved. Sooner or later players are going to have to take some responsibility and show some pride in the jersey. If the training setup is not too your liking then please f-off and leave somebody in there who is willing to put the effort in.

As I said at the beginning I have had to watch some horrendous crap in my day but I never doubted the honesty of effort until last night. In my opinion it was a watershed. We need to look at the way we are going and who we are going to do it with. The first place to start would be a fitness regime that saw Pauric Mahoney, Darragh Fives, Noel Connors and Brian O'Halleran crippled with injuries and only one of them over the age of 20. I would guess less weights and few more hurling drills should be first up for discussion.

Rant over, I am going to hit the bottle this weekend and pretend I never heard of the U-21 Championship.
