Why are there no Friday night games???
Granted the games have to be played at the same time, but surely a pair of games could have been fixed for the Friday night. Are there intermediate games for the Friday night??

That's a big if but say they do beat Kilkenny I'm pretty sure that Limerick would be playing on the 19th of August which gives a full 2 weeks after this round of Club Championship. There is no way that they should be cancelled. Fair enough you may get an injury but sure that can happen just as easily in the first minute of a semifinal or in training. That's the whole idea of having a panel.
Plus it would do the world of good to lads on the fringes to be getting full competitive games. Admittedly a lower level but the county lads often mark each other anyway.
Plus I'd say there would be a real buzz about the county for that weekend if the players were back with their clubs. Would be great to be going to games knowing those lads will be playing an AI semi 2 weeks later.
Plus with a lot of young lads on the team it would probably be no harm to get them away from concentrating on the county setup for a week. A change is as good as a break & all that.
Finally, I'm pretty sure there would be countless examples of a round of club championship getting called off by counties that went on to lose match that the club games get called off for.
Can't remember exact dates but AI final 2007 which may be a bit different in fairness but calling off that round of fixtures didn't appear to help Limerick. I think I remember a story about Mike Mc guaranteeing a Clare County Board meeting a munster final win if they called off a round of club championship in the very first year where the club fixtures were guaranteed not to be changed (2008?)
Also lads wonder why people pick other sports at times & as much as I loved playing GAA & once you get over the fact that you may only get 3 or 4 games in the main competition you compete in, the greatest draw of other sports was the consistency of matches being fixed only getting changed due to unplayable pitches. You could actually plan your life outside of the sport without fearing that you'll have to choose between the plans you made based on a fixture that's set getting changed.
Apologies for the rant.

Complete Joke... Having any games on the Sunday of a bank holdiay weekend is madness.. There will be no one around to go to them (gone to Galway Races/Kilkee/Ballby) and it is a complete kick in the teeth to all the club players with have been sitting around for the last 6 weeks!
What is wrong with all the games being on Friday night and Saturday afternoon/evening. God forbid lads might have some sort of life outside hurling!

You are correct about Mike Mac. The Clare club players werent happy at the time, and there was a bit of debate and then Mike Mac preached passion at a meeting and promised to deliver a Munster title. The clubs voted to call them off then.

Around exam time, clubs have expressed a wish that they dont want Thursday night games. So the County Board have decided to put a complete end to Thursday night games even though there would be no problem with them in August. Allowing for the logistics of games being played at the same time, if games were played on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday, people have the Sunday and Monday to enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend.
Bank Holidays arent the issue they once were nowadays though because people are staying at home now, the funds arent there anymore.

With Limerick out of contention for the All Ireland it's back to the club championships this weekend. Any predictions or any games people are looking forward to?

I was just looking on the excellent milford website and it said that the quarters are predetermined. Does anybody know if this is correct?
Emmetts (winners of Group 1) v 2nd Group 2
1st Group 2 v 2nd in Group 1
1st Group 3 v 2nd Group 4
1st Group 4 v 2nd Group 3

G/B
Emmetts
Effin
P/Well
M/B
Kilmallock
H/H
N/P
I'm sure I'll be wrong in about half of those predictions anyway as there are normally a few surprises but bar Effin I'd say I've picked all the favorites. Maybe Liberties would be favorites against H/H actually.

Open draw. But a team cant meet in the semi final if they were in the same group. i.e Kilmallock and M/Boher couldn't meet in a semi if they both get there.

If Kilmallock top there group and Croom top there group it will be Kilmallock v Na Piarsaigh in a qfinal which would be one of the big names gone.

Thursday night games are a disaster for anyone working away from home. Whatever hope lads would have of getting off a couple of hours early on the Friday of a bank holiday weekend it just wouldnt be feasible in most jobs to get off early Thurs evening.
Add in the fact that travelling long journeys in a rush are no preparation for games its best to leave games to Fri, Sat and Sun

I know. But it is just my opinion. As you can see from my prediction that I went for Na Piarsaigh, while you went for Croom.

Yes if Patrickswell beat G/spillane by more than 5points and Effin beat Doon by 3 points. P/well and and Effin go through. If G/spillane win Doon would have to beat effin by i think over 5 points to knock out P/well and Effin would have to beat doon by 3 points to knock out p/well. It's all down to scoring difference.

This is the Round 1 topic which also covered Round 2. To be honest, I think it would be better to stick to one topic for the year to go back on old posts.
http://www.anfearrua.ie/topic.aspx?id=1193948
Here is the Milford site with the tables etc.
Emmetts are through from group 1. Bruree and Granagh/Ballingarry will be a serious championship style winners take all game at Kilmallock. If Granagh/Ballingarry win they qualify. If Bruree win they must win by four points more than Adare, should Adare beat Emmetts. If Emmetts win and Bruree win, Bruree are through.
In Group 2 things are very tight. Patrickswell will qualify if they win. Garryspillane will top the group with a win or a draw and would qualify even in defeat unless Effin beat Doon. At that, Effin (-1) would need to work on the score difference, depending on what Patrickswell would win by. No head to head applies between Garryspillane and Effin or Doon and Patrickswell because of the draws in the last round. For Doon to qualify, they need to beat Effin, hope Patrickswell lose, and achieve a better score difference than Patrickswell. Micheal Ryan Simon and Liam Ryan Simon are both away. Is Conor Kearney away for Effin????
Kilmallock are already through in Group 3. Ahane still have a chance by virtue of the hammering Murroe Boher got from Kilmallock. Ahane have a zero score difference, whereas Murroe/Boher are -13. If Ahane win, and Murroe Boher win, Murroe/Boher would have to win by 14 points more than Ahane to qualify ahead of Ahane on score difference. Head to head (which Murroe/Boher hold over Ahane) would not apply because that scenario would leave three teams on 4 points.
In Group 4, Croom (+14) and Na Piarsaigh (+5) play each other. Liberties can only qualify if they hammer Hospital Herbertstown, and Na Piarsaigh are beaten by Croom. Hospital Herbertstown can only qualify if they beat Liberties and Na Piarsaigh beat Croom and scoring difference kicks in between themselves and Croom as the head to head does not apply because of a draw between them earlier.

The real glamour tie this weekend is undoubtedly Granagh/Ballingarry v Bruree. Should be a ferocious battle.
