Given the complete and utter inability of anyone in Vodafone to actually talk on phones (with the exception of Mrs Automated Menu), does anybody here know the deal with Vodafone Passport?
I have it on my phone but I am wondering about the following;
I understand that if I make a call from abroad there is a 79c connection fee. But then does it eat into my plans minutes are am I charged a certain amount per minute cause technically they are international calls?
If I was standing in Berlin and ringing Ballinasloe would I be charged 79c plus 40c (eg) per minute
OR
Would I be charged 79c and 4 minutes gone from my plan which allows me 400 minutes per month?
Its explained (sorta) here

From memory, stay a mile away from Data roaming. I got a text when I was in Barcelona last December telling me that I had used up most of my limit and had €35 euro spent on data. I had about half an hour browsing done.
In terms of calls, I have a package deal with free calls, and every call outside that is charged at a set price per minute. If I am abroad, the free minutes dont apply and the set price per minute kicks in provided I am on the Vodafone network over there. I would assume you are the same
If I remember correctly, I am charged the 79cent connection charge when making a call. Receiving calls are free, but you are charged the 79cent connection charge.

just got hit with €110 data roaming for the last 3 weeks. You have to select the €2 a day data roaming plan if you want to use internet abroad. I've learned the hard way unfortunately.

It all depends on the plan you are on and when you entered into the contract. I find Vodafone very cheap these days to roam with, in comparison to a few years ago.
Looking at my last bill, i'm on a perfect choice access plus 300, get 300 mins of anytime calls, 300 texts and 2GB data. Also get 5 friends that i can call as often as i wish for free either mobiles or landlines. Anyway costs 49.59 euro plus VAT.
While roaming i have the Vodafone passport and the data configured to vodafone live!.Looking at my bill, calls home from Germany cost 84cents for the first minute and seem to cost around 20cents per minute thereafter. From the UK its 20 cents for the first minute and 20cents thereafter. It did not cost to receive call in the UK but does in Germany.
Anyway with regards to data, i roam on data the whole time while in europe or the UK and it is just subtracted from my 2GB allowance. I never get close to the full allowance. While in Europe or the UK for the last 2 years i use data roaming through Vodafone live, iPhone was configureed that way and i have never been billed. Very useful for emails, maps etc while away with work.
When you contact vodafone most of the service agents have no clue about their billing systems and its impossible to find out.
