Well, given that
- Kerry are playing for a 3rd weekend in a row
- They seemed to invest an awful lot emotionally and physically into the Tyrone game, and laboured past Westmeath
- This will be Clare's third game this year in the Gaelic Grounds
- Clare were very unlucky to lose by so much v Cork, very dodgy ref and dodgy goals, and will be determined to give a much better display this time. Kerry are not as good as Cork.
- 20th anniversary of the 1992 win, would be a fitting way to honour it
do Kerry have any chance at all in this one?

i admire your optimism KOH but I will settle for the same attacking mentality we saw agaisnt cork but with more agressive defence and perhaps dropping the 2 wing forwards deep when kerry are in possession to stop them wlking thru like Cork did. If we pulled this off it would be bigger than 92 as that kerry side were onyl ok by kerry standards, whilst this lot are still the best team n the country in my opinion and still have another all ireland at least in them.

Maybe another thing in our favour is Clare lads are good at winding up Galvin!
I honestly don't think that Kerry are the best team in the country though.
Dublin & Cork won the last two All-Irelands for a reason, and Kerry were well beaten by Cork earlier this year.

i would take much notice of that defeat to cork, they hae lsot to cork a few times in the last 10 years in munster onyl to hammer them out the gate in croke park in august or september.
a few clare lads alan clohessy, ger quinlan etc were poor last time so i hope they can up their performance again as we will need them big time. is mcmahon lad from KIB injured? or whats the story?

Yeah true, there's a few that know they can do better than they did against Cork

Much different team though. Lost some legends since and a few more are creaking at the seams.
However, they will be buoyed by Tyrone result and they are well aware that this could be their last chance of an AI in some time. Few more will drift off at end of this campaign and underage success has been very thin in last decade or so.
Shock result not out of the question, depending on how much the Tyrone game took out of Kerry but should still have enough for at least 5 or 6 point margin at end.

They lost the biggest influencial of them all, Darragh O Se.
I'm not too convinced by a midfield of Maher and Sheehan. It's not bad, but Tipp and Westmeath won plenty of ball against them and so could we.
Don't forget we controlled possession for long periods against Cork, we are solid in midfield.
We need to use our possession, and take the chances when they come.

To be honest, Brennan against Cork the best midfield performance I've seen all year. He shouldn't be too worried against either of the above.
Kerry well aware of this though. Will not be shy about following Dara's advice from his column a few weeks ago if things going badly. Brennan may find himself being blocked off or pulled back just as kickout is taken or just before he is to receive a pass.

Thought David Tubridy ( by his standards ) was average enough against Cork, and Alan Clohessy's game may have been feeling the pressure from being captain in a Munster final,
everyone will have to be at 100% to be in with a shout of besting this Kerry team who Croke Park and Sam in their sights.
Is Marty McMahon back ?

this game could be a struggle for kerry , they will win , of that ive no doubt but id expect a low key display and a narrow enough win , kerry by 6- 8 points .

I suppose we should consider anything less than a 10 point Kerry win to be a Clare victory.

Yes, given as Kerry have such an array of talent - 15 all-star awards in the forwards alone, a double figure win would be the very least they'd expect.
Gooch, Donaghy and Declan O'Sullivan could bag eight points apiece .

Marty not back as per Clare People.
he was very hard done by to be dropped for Cork game as has giving outstanding service.
also with backs in serious trouble, he was only looked at to go in the last 5 minutes.
Hopefully, if not for this weekend, he will be back for next year as he would be a big loss to Clare

I would be very surprised if Marty returns to the fold. All that travelling up and down for training and games for the last number of years with little prospect of county success, great commitment effectively putting his life on hold, arguably Clare's most consistent back over the last 3/4 years, and this is how he's treated! While I'd love to see him continue I wouldnt blame him for throwing in the towel.

Very tough on Marty to be dropped I know Cork were big and strong but could have been put on early in the second half. We have the players from midfield up to trouble any team if they get enough ball. I just hope the backs have learned a lesson from the Cork game allowing lads to run through the middle of the pitch to get goals. I think we are capable of keeping Kerry to 5 or 6 points and I would be happy with that.

Kerry by 10. That Clare midfielder that played well against Cork is a fine footballer, Brennan is it? , We had never heard of him down here before and he gave us a bit of a lesson in the midfield, it will be intresting to see how he does now against Kerry as he will surely be a marked man after his performance in the Munster final.

I appreciate he would have travelled up and down from Dublin over the last few years but that doesnt give any player a divine right to play. He had a very poor league by his standards and from talking to anyone close to the panel he had not being going well in training coming up to the Limerick game and would not have started that game if eberyone was available from what I hear.
He was given a runaround in the LImerick game by the big lad Buckley. Now Cork had six big lads like Buckleys so there was no way he could start against Cork. In fairness he could have been brought on earlier against Cork as he couldnt have been worse than some of the backs already playing but If every player that didint get a start refused to come on where are you going.

Agree although I can see why he would be disappointed. No excuse for not coming on when asked no matter how long is left!!

I would play Shane Brennan midfield instead of Quinlan, thought Brennan did well there when moved there against Cork. I would play Enda Coughlan wing forward with him helping out Midfield and half backs and bring in Graham Kelly wing back. I appreciate he would have to be warned about getting booked early but at least he would have a bit of drive in him.
Coughlan is not a marker, never was. He plays best when loose/extra defender and would deliver good ball in to our dangerous inside forward line if midfield & half backs could feed him.
I have my doubts about Duggan at full back too given he had no training done and suddenly parachuted in against Cork. Mc Neilus must have gone down the pecking order big time considering he played every league game.

I would start Graham Kelly. Think its worth taking a chance on him. We need a strong 1st half unlike the Munster Final..

I was at the Cork v Clare Munster Final.
Clare conceded 3 very similar goals - they allowed the Cork Players to run at them.
I think Clare will have learned a lot from the Cork Game and will be very encouraged that they matched Cork in most areas, they won midfield well and created a few goal chances. They will have noted that Cork ( E Cadogan) fouled their forward when they created their best goal chance.
I expect Clare Management to demand and get much more physicality. Clare are good at MF and have a decent FF line - if they can tighten up in defence and their HF line contribute a few scores then they can make a game of it.
Kerry are overwhelming favourites and it's difficult for them to be fully up for this game after the huge efforts and application needed for the Tyrone game.
I expect Kerry to win, obviously but they could be a bit flat and if Clare have belief - you never know.

I think the big thing clare need is belief ... The last day they left too much space for cork forwards but u can call me a Kib man but no way was Coughlan the worst defender Gordon Kelly was getting roasted by sheehan and Gould and Colm o Neill had few points kicked off corner back but I do agree Coughlan should be up the field and Graham in wing back
