Michael Owen’s latest attempt to engage with his Twitter fanbase backfired spectacularly after a Q&A session on the social media website led to a deluge of abuse from fans with their cheeky questions.

On Sunday the former England star invited his followers on Twitter to submit questions to him using the hashtag #AskMOwen.

Owen told followers that he would select the 10 best questions and post video answers to them online.

The former Liverpool and Real Madrid ace, who was released by Manchester United in June, told fans to Tweet their questions ‘on anything’ and if the session was a success he would even make it a regular feature on his official app.

The session received a huge response but unfortunately for Owen the nature of the questions being posed by fans was not exactly what he had in mind.

Owen has of yet to post his video responses but if you look at the selection of some of the questions below it's plain to see why:

@MirrorFootball: Do you feel a great affinity with Bradley Wiggins, who has also won a championship while sitting down? #askMOwen

@greglarmouth: #AskMOwen I’m expecting a parcel on Thursday, would you be able to sit in for me while I’m out? I have Racing UK & ATR & my sofa’s leather?

@steveuk30: #askMOwen Is it true you will only sign for a team if they have a heated bench ?

@BigJohnTerry: #askMOwen Did you ever think you’re just like Liverpool? good back in the day but now finding it really hard just to play football

@AlanPardewNUFC: #askMowen Our tea lady needs a holiday, can you cover? There is little to no sitting down involved though, will that be a problem?

@AndreVillyB: #askMOwen Where do you get your tickets from for the match? I see you every week and they’re good seats in the crowd.

@FootyHumour: #AskMOwen Which stadium has the most comfortable bench?

@HeskeyHeskey: #askMOwen I scored more goals than you in the Premiership last season. #LOL

@paddypower: #askMOwen were you gutted you weren’t nominated for a TV Bafta for your performance in the Insure.ie ads?

@RealParkJiSung: #askMOwen Do you know we called you Messi because we didn’t want to get caught 1 on 1 with you? In a conversation?

@BigJohnTerry: #askMOwen have you got a wife?

@Dante_Banks: #askMOwen If you cross breed a cat with a goldfish how long is it before you realise your career ended 6 years ago?

@weldy1980: #askMOwen If u had a choice between recieving a personality or being good at football, which wud u choose?

Very good.

I'd say he'll cope though, after Fergie funding his sedentary lifestyle for last three years. Club technically broke and Micky pulling in £50k per week to sit on the bench!

I thought he was on a pay-per-play deal.

I think with all those pay-per-play deal that once you are declared fit to be in the match day squad then you get paided , you don't actually have to play just be fit enough to play.

Owen was injured a lot but still would have picked up a nice sum for the times he was fit and just watching from the bench.

Just spotted this now-some very good ones there. His career tanked years ago and he really is a bit of a laughing stock at this stage.

Just goes to show the spirit of the keyboard warrior is alive and well. Owen may have been in decline for a while, but he achieved more in 5 minutes of his career than those internet hard men have in their entire lives.

Are you talking about the two goals he scored in 5 minutes in the 2001 FA Cup Final or is mentioning 5 minutes just a big coincidence?

Coincidence, but it worked out quite well, I suppose!

England's top scorer of competitive goals with 26 (40 international goals in total)
Winning World Player of the Year wasn't bad either, ahead of Raul, Zidane, Rivaldo etc.
Brilliant in his peak though he declined very quickly after he lost his pace.

Owen was a class act in his heyday. But injuries have decimated his career. But through his own self promotion and delusion, he has become a laughing stock.
I'm not a fan of Piers Morgan but his slagging of Owen can be quite funny at times.
I mean, when United released him and didn't bother releasing a statement about it to the media, surely that made him see he's lost all credibility.
Having said that, I'm sure he is sitting on a vast personal fortune and football might just be an act of vanity now.

On Sunday they showed reruns of his goals, and what he did in his first year at United (Manchester Derby winner etc.) and he declared that he will score goals like that again once he gets a run of games in a side.

I dont doubt he would score goals but he aint going to stay fit. He is very fragile in terms of injuries. If I was a manager I would take a chance on him on a pay per play deal, but his level of self promotion at this stage is gone beyond the joke. He should either retire with his dignity intact or else drop down to Division 1 where he might help get a team into the Premiership, but he keeps stressing he is above that.

If he can be got on a pay per play deal, it's a no brainer. Any team apart from Man U, Man City and Chelsea should be looking at him.
Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool, Everton - all short strength in depth in this department.
With modern sport science advances and the quality of doctors/physios at these clubs, who knows. Def worth taking a punt on in my opinion.
If he plays he scores - BIG if though.

Michael Owen looks to be clubless even allowing for him being a free agent

Morgan is a smarmy toad. Thought Gary Lineker put him in his place nicely when he said he'd never hacked anyone. Who is Morgan to deride any of these people's abilities? They've represented their country at the highest level, which is more than can be said for Morgan's journalistic abilities.

Have to agree with Glor na Gael.Piers Morgan is the Chris Brown of broadcasters, have people forgotten why he was sacked as editor of the Mirror? Printing hoax pics if British army soldiers abusing iraqis, was also found guilty of buying shares in a company that the Mirror finance journalist would the next day encourage people to buy shares and of course admitted listening to peoples voicemails during hacking scandal, human toad.

Shrewd operator though - knows how unreliable his muscles, ligaments are and therefore holding out for more than "pay per play" deal.
Wants something like his Utd deal where there was an element of ppp but also a cushy retainer for the weeks he was pestering the club's medical staff.

Does Owen have financial problems? He admitted to a gambling problem in the past, and a lack of money may well be the only reason he's scrabbling round for a club in the face of indifference.

There seems to be a problem now as it appears Stoke have already submitted the list of 25 players to the League. He could still be the answer to Liverpools prayers.

Great move for Owen, Stoke is about halfway between Aintree and Cheltenham.
