The swimming is on RTE now - although, at the moment, they are only talking about it.

Jimmy Magee has described John Joe Nevin as a 'superior being' to his opponent!

Classy performance by Nevin, though
And some very nifty footwork

It would be nice if somebody explained the scoring system to jimmy. He reported round totals as cumulative scores.

You'd like to think he'd adjust his defence in accordance with the threat posed by an opponent.
Although the three wise men seem to be saying that's his usual style
But I think his footwork will compensate to some degree.

Very impressive: one of the most impressive performances I've seen from an Irish amateur boxer, though with the caveat that Denmark is not a boxing nation
(even if his opponent's surname suggested Turkish origins)

Sky could not carry the BBC's 12 HD channels due to broadcast rights issues but I realised this morning that the BBC Red Button provides access to these channels as well as non-commentary broadcasts from the various venues.

John Joe facing a Kazakh boxer in the next round; any Kazakh boxer, by definition, has to be feared but the fact this guy has recently beaten the reigning World Champion makes him especially to be feared.
I only caught the last round of the Kazakh's bout so hard to say, otherwise.
But John Joe seems to be 'The Real Deal'

Bit of a facepalm moment for Dowling when he refered to Nevin as "a great thinker...with a H."

Commentator on the BBC doing the cycling going on about the sprint for 4th place when there was about 20 riders already finished!

Both Irish boxers very impressive in their own way: O'Neill's Nigerian opponent's big reach made him awkward to come to terms with but there was always ever going to be one winner, short of being hit by a sucker punch.

The German that he'll be meeting in the next round looked very 'clinical' and 'efficient' - no great surprise, there, - but I think O'Neill's more aggressive hard-hitting punching will give him the edge

I never heard of him before, but himself and his co-commentator have obviously been on 2 weeks holidays in the States recently.

They were really sickened on BBC when Cavendish came nowhere in the road race.Resorting to blaming the peleton who apparentley didn't help them in trying to reel in the breakaway group.

I don't know much about cycling but the British media over the last couple of weeks seemed to think it was a formality that Cavendish would win, have they not learned from years of hyping up the English soccer team

I thought Cavendish's comments afterwards were a bit bitter and not really adhering to the spirit of the games , he was on about other teams not trying to win but only there to try and ensure the British team did not win.

He was overwhelming favorite for it but you still have to go out there and do it, I think he felt entitled to a gold just because it is is in London and it was his turn.

In fairness here they have top cyclists and basically fcuked it up,as opposed to their football players, most of whom are average at best

Delighted the Brits won no medal. The bitter bast*rd Mark Cavendish said afterwards that the rest of the world were happy not to win as long as the Brits didn't. All he wanted was everyone to do the donkey work for him and let him pick them off at the finish.
