you are very bullish re kerry's prospects Caidman!

re colm cooper. A certain journalist wrote in 2009 that he was just about up to lacing Colm O'Rourke's boots!! wonder what he has to say now. His scoring exploits are perhaps more notable than Mikey Sheehy in that Cooper is often not number one freetaker. Fitzgerald, O'Cinneide and Sheehan the dead ball men during the Cooper years.

Has Joe Brolly anything to say this week!?

I couldn't believe my ears when a journalist who may have been the same one you refer to, commented similarly after The Gooch gave a Masterclass against Mayo a couple of years back.

Whatever about scoring records I can't recall seeing a better forward player in almost fifty years of watching the game.
And its a pity RTE and TV3 couldn't set up a dedicated 'Gooch-Watch' camera, as American broadcasters do for top NFL players, so that we can see more of his off-the-ball play

Could that same journalist possibly be the man who claims that Michelle Smith has been badly wronged ? Obviously, a man of rare insight.

Kerry players never make a big deal of winning individual honours, or setting records like 'most caps'. Neither have they ever needed cheerleaders like you bragging about them, and clapping yourself on the back for going to a couple of matches, grow up you Fool.

i say colm o'rourke would be embarrassed with the comments.

the idiotic appointment of Darren O'Sullivan as captain ended up okay - with Darren lifting Sam Maguire!!

There is a video of the Gooch scoring a goal with his club on youtube that is just simply out of this world.I agree with you regarding the best forward in the past 50 years and even in just Kerry alone that is a massive achievement.Brolly is like our ProjX for blowin the smoke and as a lawyer and a pundit he really should be ashamed of himself. This comin from a man whose only claim to fame as a footballer really was kissin his own ass in public

Yes, lad, but its not just in YouTube goal candidates that his greatness can be appreciated.
I'm hoping to be able to get to next week's game against Donegal where I'll be looking forward to seeing genius forward play cut open solid defensive discipline

If he was in a more mediocre team how would he fare.

I would have Maurice Fitzgerald ahead of him of Kerry forwards that I have seen.He almost single handedly won an All Ireland for Kerry in 1997, also Gooch would lack his long range point scoring ability which Maurice Fitzgerald was brilliant at.

Maurice Fitzgerald was on some medicore and some poor kerry teams. You are correct that Gooch wouldnt have the long range ability of Fitzgerald. Wouldnt have his fielding ability either. Maurice Fitzgerald played a few games at midfield for kerry. Fitzgerald is kerry's finest ever forward in my view and the best GAA forward of the last 2 or 3 decades.

I d say Gooch would be class on a poorer team as well in the same way as Declan Browne always oozed class with Tipp

I don't think anybody compared with Maurice Fitzgerald when it came to long range point scoring ability but given that he wasn't always a guaranteed starter for Kerry must have meant his team ethic must have had cause to be questioned

He only wasnt a guarateed strter in his later days remember he was 28 when he won his first all Ireland and I couldnt understand why he didnt start for Kerry in his later days.

I don't think that the Kerry public agreed wholeheartedly with Paidi's reluctance to start him either

Scoring records in a team sport are fairly meaningless. GAA championship records should have two categories - before and after the back-door system came into play.

I always suspected that jealousy might have played some part, although cerebus or other Kerry posters might have the 'inside track' on that one.
But, still and all, if you're not getting the starts you have to question your value as a team player, if your individual talent isn't being questioned.
I don't think any Kerry manager has even come close to dropping The Gooch, once he became an established first-team player

Hey lads before this thread goes any further with the saying he said she said and was he better than A B or C.Can we all agree at least that Gooch very simply made football seem like a game any small thin young lad could play and make the bigger guys always look pretty stupid. Can we at least give him credit for that because he was always the smallest big guy that ever came out of the Kingdom and somehow or other we never noticed it.

Correct , Maurice was treated very badly by Paidi in his last few campaigns but he never complained and saved the day often when called off the bench.....

What were Paidi's motives do you think, cer?
Did they think Mo's head had swelled too much?

my own top 3 kerry forward would be declan, gooch, and fitz in that order ...
as regards next sunday im trembling with excitment , could be a epic day in the old stadium with 3 awesome games , bring it on !

Perhaps a case of Paidi wanting to show who's boss, then?

Although I didn't enjoy my previous experience of watching Donegal, LUYVE, I've always welcomed Jim McGuinness' single-minded determination to create something new with this Donegal team; not least because Donegal people, themselves, wouldn't have been happy with the way their pretty football had been swept aside in preious seasons.

Having said that I'll be hoping Kerry win; as I usually do for the best exponents of the 'Beautiful Game'
(hopefully Down will triumph over Mayo, also; although I'm not as confident, there)

Hard to argue with any of your picks there caidman. However, having said that you must be quite a young man as every generation coming out of the Kingdom long as I have been around seem to have consistently brought us the best and the brightest in gaelic football. They are like the add for the everready battery on tv the bunny that always keeps on giving.
