Just over a week to go to this one and what a cracker it promises to be.Clare go in as favourites for this one by virtue of their big win over waterford in the semi.Favourites tag will lie heavy with us especially with home advantage and what should be a big partisan crowd.A lot has been expected off this clare team even before a ball was pucked this year. While we played some champagne stuff in the semi you really would prefer a harder game heading into a final.Questions remain to be answered. Are we that good? Were waterford just that bad?
You would think the answer lies somewhere in between. After all this waterford team contained a number of minor winning players and a senior player or two. There is no doubting that we have an unreal set of forwards if they get the right ball in to them. Our defence was imperious last day out so we should be well able to hold our shape.
Tipp had a quiet build up pre season and not much was expected from anyone i spoke to from tipp beforehand. All that said they dispatched with limerick easy enough even with a truck of wides.Tipp are one game away from a clean sweep of munster titles in all grades of hurling this season in munster.Has this been done before?A cracker of a game in the making but i think our forward firepower should see us through.Expect a close game though with lots of ups and downs before the end.Tipp wont be there to make ul the numbers and home advantage will be of little benifit to us.An Clar abu!

im sorry but i will be seriously depressesd if this team lose to tipp.. on paper, i think this team are a much better 'hurling' team than the 09 team.. that team was physically very strong.. something this team is not.. they just seem to be very good all over the field.. when you see peter duggan, stephen o hallaran, jack browne, cathal mcinerney and daire keane (he probably wouldnt make starting team even if fit) not starting it shows how good they are.. complacency is the only thing that will beat them and i dont think management will let them be complacent. plus with the aforementioned players looking over their shoulderts they will know they cant afford to play badly. i honestly think clare by 7+ points.
galway have a super u21 team this year as well and if anyone beats clare it could be galway. they have 12 available from last years team., plus joseph cooney, daithi burke and the best of last years minors. ie brehony, mahoney and glynn. they avoid each other till the final.

In fairness to the management and the players and all involved with the Clare squad, they wont be getting carried away or taking anything for granted. This Tipp team has put Cork and Limerick to the sword and both those sides had plenty of well known senior stars. This Tipp team has only 1 fella on either the Intermediate or Senion panels so that means they have been together for quite some time and will know one another very well and be very focused on this game. Nothing should be taken for granted by anyone in the county. There's 60 minutes of hurling and we'll earn it. Its a great chance to finally pout one over them and bury a few ghosts but its not guaranteed.
Cant make it back for this as I'll be watching it in Spain somewhere. Really looking forward to it and may the best team win.

I agree that this Clare team have talented and skillful players all over the field but I am a bit concerned because of the very easy passage they have got to the final. Tipp on the other hand have come through the tough side of the draw with 2 matches that came down to the wire. This is the best preparation a team could get coming into the final. This will have them physically and mentally prepared for this match. Therefore any complacency or over confidence in Clare could end up being very costly. Remember the last 2 under 21 finals in Ennis against Tipp ended in controversy with Tipp winning on both occasions. Tipp will go to Ennis full of confidence given their record in Cusack Park and having the confidence gained from beating a good Cork side and the favorites Limerick. Come on The Banner.

Tipp going for the senior, intermediate, minor and u21 clean sweep. Clare have a very strong panel but Tipp have grown over the campaign and cleaned Limerick in the Gaelic Grounds. In Cork last 10 minutes they finished in style hitting some great scores.
Clare have the better panel but physically will they win enough ball, question mark over the wides hit in the intermediate game also.
I think the bookmakers have this wrong and it will be very close. Clare have the bench to turn the game if it's goin against them. Not too many counties with a bench as good as that at u21, maybe only Galway,

It is very strange to be going in favorites at this level against a Tipp team. To my mind it is very much a 50/50 game. While we have good players on the team and panel it did take us a while to get going against a very poor Waterford team. Even though we won well in the end that performance against Tipp would not be any way good enough. Against a good team if you don't score your goal chance first time you will not get a second chance, will have to be much sharper. Home game is not a big advantage at this level as we have learned from the past. Lets hope the lads can do it: Come on the banner!

Don't be depressed or don't get carried away with ye're expectancy either like a few from Limerick did!! We have a decent team and while we may have hit quite a few wides in semi our backs/mf were excellent! Anything can happen at minor/under 21 level, if ye win ye will have beaten a good team and good luck to ye!

Clare have a great chance but really hope complacency doesn't become an issue. Certainly on paper are very strong, but don't forget that Tipp have beaten Cork and Limerick away from home.
Hopefully there's a good crowd, certainly was a good attendance at the Waterford game. Bit of sunshine would be great too, adds a lot to an atmosphere at a mid week game like that and encourages people who are 50-50 to come out.

Ridiculous odds on PP for this match. I'm loading u on Tipp at 11/4, you won't see better value all year. Clare favourites based on previous minor record (which is never guaranteed to translate) & big win against poor Waterford team.

some thoughts on the match before the teams are named.
clare were very good against waterford but time will tell if clare are that good or if waterford were very poor. tipp are a team of no stars but honest hardworking players and their 2 wins away from home have been impressive.tipp will not fear clare and by winning it woul be a huge achievement given all 3 games would be away from home.
clare have shown their hand in playing a 2 man full forward line and i expect tipp to leave a sweeper back there and also to play a deep lying no 6 to close down the centre. clare have very skillful fast forwards but maybe too many loose players. i expect the middle third to be a battleground with all breaking ball to be fought for ferociously.clare will try to break the ball as tipp will be superior in the air.
if clare can supply their forwards with quick ball they will win, tipp consequently will try to put all clare deliveries under pressure. if tipp suceed in winning midfield they will win the match. tipp will not shoot as many wides as against limerick. tipp also have the advantage in having the best freetaker on the field.
i expect that ultimately the game will be decided when both teams worst lines meet each other, tipps full forward line and clares full back line. tipps inside line have been poor so far and it is unusual to have the outside forwards outscore the inside ones. clares fullback line are suspect and have no senior panelist. they are a strange selection given the subs on the line and the form of clares minor fullback.
hopefully the weather will improve and we will have a great match.

Yes with great difficulty, I found registering first and registering card helped. It also took several attempts to get on to the payment page and when you make your payment, error comes up, it don't tell you what the error is but I found at this stage you have to enter the the 3 secure digits at the back of the card. Hope this is helpful.

Tmac on what evidence are you bading your theory that the clare full back line is suspect?Granted we do mot have any marquee names in our back line but that should not be the sole criteria of if a backline is good or not.Against waterford our fullback line were superb, especially young flannagan who covered every inch of the defensive lines and really impressed me with his reading of the game.

Interesting comments on Clare fullback line ...
WRT frees, Tots O'Connell is also good with the frees. Tony Kelly and Conor McGrath also.
You're right ...if Tot's starts, the 2 man full forward line will almost certainly be the ploy again.
I think Clare can win this match using the bench. From the 15 that started the last day, they can call on lads like Jack Browne, Boyce, Stephen O'Halloran, Peter Duggan, Cathal McInerney ...maybe Daire Keane if he has recovered from injury.
