clare were very good against waterford but time will tell if clare are that good or if waterford were very poor. tipp are a team of no stars but honest hardworking players and their 2 wins away from home have been impressive.tipp will not fear clare and by winning it woul be a huge achievement given all 3 games would be away from home.
clare have shown their hand in playing a 2 man full forward line and i expect tipp to leave a sweeper back there and also to play a deep lying no 6 to close down the centre. clare have very skillful fast forwards but maybe too many loose players. i expect the middle third to be a battleground with all breaking ball to be fought for ferociously.clare will try to break the ball as tipp will be superior in the air.
if clare can supply their forwards with quick ball they will win, tipp consequently will try to put all clare deliveries under pressure. if tipp suceed in winning midfield they will win the match. tipp will not shoot as many wides as against limerick. tipp also have the advantage in having the best freetaker on the field.
i expect that ultimately the game will be decided when both teams worst lines meet each other, tipps full forward line and clares full back line. tipps inside line have been poor so far and it is unusual to have the outside forwards outscore the inside ones. clares fullback line are suspect and have no senior panelist. they are a strange selection given the subs on the line and the form of clares minor fullback.
hopefully the weather will improve and we will have a great match.

V good analysis tmack,I would be surprised if tipp can pull this one out of the fire. In their two games so far tipp have been quite defensive in nature thus sacrificing a bit of bite in the full forward line, against Limerick Liam McGrath operated very deep for long periods which gave Tipp an advantage in the middle third but with the consequence that tipp wing forwards and midfielder's drove harmless wides with no option for them to pick out someone up front. Jason Forde could be an option for Tipp in the full forward line but he lacks experience.

The Clare u21 players on the Intermediate team looked skill-full and strong and with McGrath and O'Connell keeping the scoreboard ticking over it could a very long hour for Tipp.

I heard today that the Cratloe lads have senior football championship this Friday - they wanted it brought forward to this evening but the request was refused. Hopefully they all come though it unscathed and fresh for Wednesday night.

Senior football games on Friday for a few clubs. Liscanor play Wolfe Tones that evening I think. That would mean Aaron Cunningham also playing Friday. Any other dual players involved with the 21's.

Sound for that - can check it in work but I'll look at it later on tonight when I'm at home.

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for that. Sorted now - got them booked.

The WT manager indicated in yesterday's paper that Aaron is concentrating on the 21s final and will miss the football game.

I think the bookmakers have this wrong and it will be very close. Clare have the bench to turn the game if it's goin against them. Not too many counties with a bench as good as that at u21, maybe only Galway,

I'd have to agree with you here Frankel, I think the bookmakers may be taking the form/scorelines of the semi-finals too literally.
They are underestimating the Tipperary challenge quite markedly in my opinion. Tipp beat a well-fancied Cork side below in Cork in the first round and followed that with another away from home win against a Limerick side peppered with seniors, they also achieved the semi-final win despite hitting a shedload of wides, something on which Ken Hogan is bound to have done alot of work on in the meantime.
Tipp are a big strong side, and while none of the Clare lads are shrinking violets, they will hold the upperhand over Clare on sheer physicality, Maher ( no.8 ) and Curran (no.11) are two good ball winners in particular and if Curran in particular brushes up on his shooting he'll be a real handful,.... that being said he'll be coming up against a fair yoke in Conor Ryan !
I thought Clare moved the ball and themselves very well against Waterford, they are skillful, fast and well-coached and the player in possesion is always looking up and weighing up his options. Ialso think that Waterford's challenge wilted very much from around the twenty minute mark and because of that the winning margin is bigger than it should've been.
I think it will be a close final, and Tipp will not at all be phased by playing it in Ennis, Clare have some reat options on the bench and this could well prove decisive as hurling is becoming more and more a twenty man game.

Any word on Daire Keane? I presume even of he is recovered, he won't start / won't be match fit.

Maher (no 8 ) was immense against Limerick and slotted over quite a few points, having that said he was being left very loose. I fully agree it will be a close final, Tipp are battled hardened. Waterford were poor no question about that, so this challenge has done Clare no favours. We have a good bench of subs, lets hope the management use them and not leave it to the last 5 or 6 mins like a lot of Clare senior managers have been doing over the years.

Recession buster advice:
Get you money on Tipp, PP still offering 11/4. PP must have hired some ex-Anglo Irish risk takers
