FG's Kelly backtracks over Quinn remarks after Kenny rebuke
By Michael Brennan
Wednesday August 01 2012

FINE Gael MEP Sean Kelly was forced to distance himself from bankrupt tycoon Sean Quinn yesterday after coming under fire from his own party.

He got a slap on the wrist from Taoiseach Enda Kenny and also attracted criticism from Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney.

The former GAA president had aroused anger in Fine Gael with his comments about how the 4,000 people attending the pro-Quinn rally in Ballyconnell, Co Cavan were giving "moral support" to the bankrupt businessman.

Mr Kelly had to backtrack yesterday by issuing a statement to insist that he was not supporting the Quinns or what they had done.

I'm not a Fine Gael supporter by any means, but fair play to Enda Kenny.

This is different to what happened before under the disastrous previous government.

Getting a slap on the wrist from Coveney, I bet that hurt. I wonder if it was dennis O'Brien that he was supporting would the rebuke be the same?

Gombeenism/cronyism is as rife in FG as in FF. Court cases pending re mobile phone licence will reflect badly on likes of Kenny and Hogan ( best friends forever of the bould Lowry back when they were in government together).
The only reason FG (and Lab) are less tainted is that they didn't have the power..and hence opportunity to feather their nests to the extent of FF.

Michelle Gildernew's support for Quinn a nice reminder for those that have got a bit starry eyed over SF/IRA that they're as capable of playing the parish pump gombeens as well as anyone.

Did Quinns contribute to Sean Kellys election fund and if so how much?A lot of skid marks appearing on the tails of those blueshirts.

the silence from the GAA hierarchy distancing themselves from Sean Quinn and his family in relation to comments made by Kelly is disturbing to say the least, as is the hyper reaction of a few clowns on a radio phone in show today who were almost beside themselves with rage at the 'treatment' meted out to Fermanagh's fallen hero, its seems to be built into our DNA that we continue to tip the forelock to the high and mighty in this country!

Theres an interview with Quinn on the vincent browne show later tonight so stand by for a lot of hand wringing and self pity...

IRA / Sinn Fein are at it now. Michelle Gildernew of IRA / Sinn Fein has come out in support of that awful Sean Quinn person and his family.

It's incredible that people like Gildernew and Mickey Harte who do not even live in this state are defending Quinn who has cost the Irish taxpayer billions.

Also, Brian Darcy has finally become unbearable after being barely sufferable for years.

Sean Kelly...complete and utter gombeen man....remember this tool is a representative of this country in Europe!!!!

I still don't subscribe to the view that Quinn should be hung drawn and quartered...he has a genuine greivance....the people at the top of our society are sheeting themselves that his personal case will get a hearing in court

Include to that the over €400,000 paid for Christy Cooney. There is a lot to be said for a break away organisation.

Do you expect Peter Quinn to disown his brother and son?

I would reckon he is lending his support more as a father and brother than an ex GAA president.

Say would you like about his family but there is no evidence that Peter Quin creamed it in in anyway when he was over the GAA or indeed any involvement in the GAA. He was very instrumental in moving the GAA forward and the development of Croke Park.

I have just one question for you......when oh when oh when was Fr Trendy ever sufferable?

Does he have a parish or any priestly duties like? Christ he spends more time on TV than Brian Dobson.

Yes and he got a chance to air those grievances in court in front of a judge whose verdict of him and his shenanighans was pretty damning!
Far from being hung drawn and quartered however, he and his family have been granted €30k per month living expenses by the courts.
