Gomel 0 Liverpool 1
Brendan Rodgers’ first match in charge of Liverpool ended in victory after a 1-0 win against Gomel in their Europa League third qualifying round first leg tie at the Central Stadion in Belarus.
Stewart Downing’s 25-yard effort midway through the second half was enough to give the Reds the edge going into the second leg match at Anfield next Thursday.

I'm heartbroken for Gomel myself.
By the way, will every win, draw and loss that this English team experiences between now and next May be crucial?

Nothing to say about your beloved St. Pats, then, SaB?

He's absolutely right.
The nonsensical paper tiger that the so called premiership is was embarrassingly exposed in Euro 2012.
A joke of a league controlled by that troll Murdoch and nouveau riche bandits and financed by the mentally unwell of the planet.

How can you even think about EPL soccer as we approach q final weekend in football and hurling semis the following weekends with the Brits putting on a magnificent olympics to keep us entertained during the week.
The paucity of the English game exposed in the Euros by our own lads and even the alleged "best English player since Charlton" shown up as little more than an overweight journeyman who may score a brace against Wigan or Norwich in the league but that's about the sdum of his ability.
May be worth a few posts in depths of winter when nothing else on...unless you count the egg chasing!!
Life's too short Hitch - get out a bit!!

Hardly a good start to the campaign. They bet a belarussian team 1-0 and their goal was from 25 yards out

Well if they betted on their opponents, there will be hell to pay!!
I believe the goal still stands if it's from 25 yards out - that's the way in hurling and football anyway!!

But he said a good start to the campaign.Beating that team 1-0 is the equilavent of beating shamrock rovers 1-0. They only won because of a shot from 25 yards out which shows that they didnt create much

Liverpool produced a convincing display to ensure new manager Brendan Rodgers celebrated his first match at Anfield with victory over FC Gomel of Belarus.
Goals from Fabio Borini - on his home debut - Steven Gerrard and Glen Johnson took Liverpool into the final qualifying play-off round of the Europa League 4-0 on aggregate.
Swansea midfielder Joe Allen watched from the directors' box.
He is expected to complete a transfer to Anfield in the next 24 hours.

as a liverpool fan i couldnt give a monkeys about how they do in august in the europa league nor how they do in the league cup /fa cup its the league that matters and 4th place therin nothing else counts nothing
as for joe allen my view would be that liverpool have already taken a punt on one swansea member and they should leave it at that
suarez needs to weigh in with circa 20 goals this time round or else pack his bags for sunnier climes
good luck to them but for now its hurling and the beautiful game comes a distant second
