Topic: Toilet facilities at rural grounds

So far this year I've been to five rural grounds - Portlaoise, Newry, Tullamore, Ennis and Killarney. Newry and Tullamore had very respectable toilet facilities, so no complaints there.

Ennis, Killarney and Portlaise did not. No toilet roll, no running tap water, in some cases no lighting, in all three cases it looked as if the toilets hadn't been cleaned for some time.

Visitors from Dublin like myself expect better as we're used to high standards. Why do patrons in these counties settle for this kind of squalor? Truly revolting.

I was in Ennis for the Limerick minor game a couple of weeks ago and I can confirm that there was no shortage of Toilet paper.

What difference does it make? I dont know anybody that goes to a match just to make a sh!t. Then again, fair weather supporters from the capital wouldnt be used to real manly GAA facilities

That's the kind of attitude to personal hygiene that sums of why the toilets at these grounds are in the state they're in. I hope I never have to shake hands with you.

You wont have to worry. Id be more interested in watching the match than stand in the toilets with you

staycalm, what's worrying is that you appear to glory in your ambivalent attitude towards personal hygiene. This kind of attitude literally stinks. If I'm ever in Cusack Park again (and I won't be unless Dublin are playing there, thankfully), you'll have no need to be worrying about standing near me in the toilets. I'd far rather retain the contents of my bladder rather than venture into those "facilities" again.

Rural immigrants tend to bring their cultural norms and standards with them when they migrate to a new place. Thankfully most of them are soon forced to adapt to living in a sophisticated, cosmopolitan urban centre like Dublin. Standards, you see.

What's even more worrying is a man complaining about toilet facilities at a GAA ground. Suppose if you were reared to be a softie, it never leaves you!!

I don't think it is too much to expect a clean toilet for a paying customer. Tipsy has a point, some toilets are a disgrace. The smell alone can be bad enough but no running water is again shabby treatment.

P!ss against the wall at the back of a stand or terrace. No problem with any smell then

What if he needs to go number twos? Slagging on this thread aside, the facilities at some grounds aren't up to code. Toilets at McHale Park are terrible too (unless they've been changed recently).

Personal hygiene is very much an optional extra down in the sticks.

I agree with opening poster, the toilets at some grounds are a disgrace. I would never use them myself but no matter how many times i tell the young lad to go to the toilet before we leave I always get the tug on the shirt at some stage "daddy I need to go to the toilet" and trying to get him not to touch anything inside the cubicles is tough going.
However when we go to the showgrounds to watch the bit o red we don't have this problem as toilet are always clean.

Just like some of those inner city types roaming Abbey Street and Marlborough Street...

rough bogmen from west and east clare that usually frequent the likes of Cusack Park wouldn't be used to running water, and most cases would even know what a shower is, however it is embarrassing when inter county teams and their supporters visit

Better than the lads outside the wall still making their way in anyways...

Original poster has a point about the gap in standards. I was in the Fir once in Parnell Park and Anthony Daly was in there. I said "Well" and he said "Well".

I was in the jacks one time in Cusack Park and Davy Fitz was in there.

Different gravy.

People go to grounds to watch matches, not to groom themselves in the toilets.
Stupid topic.

Stupid topic.

Going to the bathroom is hardly grooming yourself. It's hardly something you can control having to do.
