Rep of Ireland v Oman 11/09/12

Venue

CRAVEN COTTAGE.

Why there? Wasnt part of the deal with Aviva over naming rights mean that ALL home matches are player in the Aviva Stadium. Is there a gig or Rugby at the same time? If so why not Thomand Park then instead of a venue in England?

Oman at the Aviva.

Come on, Oman will not cover the break even costs. Let it take place in London and a promoter take the hit. That said the number of ex Pats in London will sell out Craven Cottage.

As one of those ex pats somehow I dont think it will be anything like a sell out.

Best to stay clear, Oman's recent record is impressive!

I presume it's all down to cost.

Players travelling expenses should be cheaper. Clubs are more willing to release players.

The big one is Craven Cottage holds just under 26,000 whereas The Aviva holds 50,000. So it would be cheaper to hire out Craven Cottage than open up Landsdowne Road for the expected small crowd.

Okay, firstly it isn't a home game so the Aviva have no right to claim it.
What happens is a third party organises a soccer friendly between two nations. They pay both countries an appearance fee, pay the stadium to host it then they go about selling the tickets. If no one shows up then so what, the FAI still get their money.

The official reason for no home friendly that week is there's a Madonna tribute act playing Lansdowne!

The cost benefit and travel/player release concerns (especially after a trip to Kazakhstan that week) raised above are probably more plausible. Nice bonus for the ex pats though.

The Madonna tribute gig might be more entertaining.

At a loss as why any sane football fan would pay in.

Oman??? (recently ranked one place above Togo in 94th - what would Roy say if he had got the call to play the might of Oman)
....and their opponents (even with full team...unlikely with EPL) aren't worth opening the curtains for if they were playing in the back garden.

In that case, its a case of the FAI cashing in and running. Cant imagine the appearance fee being worth much.

Nothing new in this at all , not a snowballs chance in hell of this even hitting 20,000 at Aviva.
We played Colombia at Craven Cottage in 2008, Nigeria there in 2009, Brazil at Arsenal in 2010 & also Ireland have played Nigeria & Jamaica at Charlton's Valley in a 3-team yoke not that long ago.
These are NOT classed as home games, more like when Irish rugby play Barbarians in UK.

The previous games in London didn't sell out.
Ex-pats don't just blindly pay up and turn up.

That wasn't a yoke, more like a joke.

Yes, and they're playing against a side that stank the gaff out at Euro 2012, playing a style of football that was a distant relation of the football being played by every other side in the Tournament...They were an embarrassment to the Country, and I'd sooner go to watch Oman, as no doubt they'll be more "Technically Gifted"
