Bord Gáis Energy Munster GAA Hurling U21 Championship Final: Clare 1-16 Tipperary 1-14

Clare won their second ever Munster U21 hurling title on Wednesday evening in Ennis with a thrilling two-point victory over Tipperary. Niall Arthur was the hero, as his goal in injury-time put Clare two points ahead having been one point behind, and left Tipperary with hardly any time to respond. Having won their only other title in 2009, the Banner County are now celebrating a second U21 provincial crown in four seasons.

After a low-scoring first half, Clare trailed Tipperary by 0-5 to 0-6. However, inspired by the brilliant Tony Kelly, who was outstanding throughout, they moved into a 0-11 to 0-10 lead midway through the second half. But just seconds after Clare had taken the lead for the first time in the game, Tipp moved back in front thanks to a superb goal from John O'Dwyer. O'Dwyer profited from some good approach work from Jason Forde, and then struck a brilliant shot past Clare 'keeper Ronan Taaffe into the roof of the net.

Clare roared back again though, and points in quick succession from Kelly and Conor McGrath (frees) brought them level. Tipp moved two points ahead again by the 55th minute, with substitute Aidan McCormack sending over a classy effort to leave Clare with a massive task to come back again with time running out. Clare got to within one a couple of times, but Tipp were able to respond on those occasions with a point each time to move two ahead again, before a Kelly '65 left the minimum in it ahead of the final act.

Then, Clare had the final say, and in stunning fashion. A sideline cut was pumped into the danger zone with little more than a minute of injury time left, and it eventually came to Arthur, who found just enough space to lash in low to the bottom left hand corner, sending the Clare fans into raptures in the process.
