A beautiful city, you're in for a treat. I was over in early July, I spent mornings down on the beach at barceloneta, number of lovely restaurants by the beach. Spent afternoons strolling down La Rambla and the numerous side streets. If you appreciate architecture visit Sangrado De Familia, Gaudi's unfinished cathedral. The queues to see the inside didn't appeal but it's stunning from the outside too. Numerous daytrips available but I would wait until i get over there to book them because the wide variety and different operators would provide bargain opportunities for daytrips. Nightlife, head to Port Olimpic for quality nightclubs, Raval for decent bars or El Born if you wish to party into the following day. Eat the seafood Paella and you will get great deals on Tapas because of the sheer volume of restaurants. Mind your wallet, I just brought cash with me because the pickpockets are treacherous. If there was a Champions League in pickpocketing, Barcelona would be head of the pile, saw quite a few people who suffered at the hands of thieves. Leave wallet in safety deposit box, also travel by metro, uber efficient, day ticket will cost you E10, taxis will rob you. Enjoy!

just be wide around la ramblas and Plaça de Catalunya at the top of la rambla, never had any hassle myself around there in over 10 trips, but the pick pockets are lethal in those areas

If you have kids a trip to Port Aventura theme park is well worth it. You can get a short train ride to it and the train stops right outside it. It would be similiar in scale to Alton Towers.

Great city. Pity the football season now back as well worth a visit and tickets available.

One word of advice-watch your wallet and I don't mean in casual back of the mind way. We were done when there last year - 3 of 4 (drink didn't help) but of the all the people I know who have been there, it's 50/50.

Deceptive city as beautiful city with friendly inhabitants and good vibe but there is serious hidden underside where petty crime is rife.

I presume that hotel is on la ramblas, if so O#Flahertys would be a 5 minute walk at most, its just off la ramblas down near the port side http://www.paddyflaherty.com/

There's also another Irish pub at the other end of the ramblas called Scobies-walk up las ramblas to place de catalunya and turn left-about 5 minutes walk from there. They do ok food there as well like toasted specials, etc. Mind your wallet on Las Ramblas!!!!!!!

Thanks lads,
Can ye say for certain that they show the GAA in either of these pubs. we'll be cutting it tight time wise and we don't want to arrive in a pub with no match on. Thanks again.

Why not email the pubs?

I did but sure if one of the lads can confirm they show the matches where is the harm. If i was to be clinical about it i should have googled it and did a bit of research. but sure i suppose im like those idiots that stop the car and ask people for directions rather tgan buying a map/sat nav. rant over:-)

well, we'd hardly be recommending pubs where they won't be showing it, after asking where the game will be on

there is definitely one irish bar just off ramblas that will be showing it.
Have been there a few times and each time, they delivered matches- early rounds of leinster football if I recall on both occaions - so AI semi will be a cert.

Name is gone from me. But its on a court yard just off left hand side of ramblas as you walk down towards the harbour.

I was in O'Flahertys the day of the Cork Galway semi final and the game was on.... I think they have an Irish Sky box as the minor game also on. When we went into the bar there was soccer on the tellys but they have another section out the back which showed the hurling. Food was also nice there

2 weeks cruise around the med, she's happy enough. Giving me an hour to watch a match is a small price to pay. Just heading off now. O'Flaherty's it is. Thanks for the help Mike.

obies definitely showing it. And it is one of the few (if not only) irish bars in barcelona that is actually owned by irish people - from Kerry. O'Flaherty's I believe is Russian owned!
