Reports on twitter that Jack O'Connor has stepped down as Kerry football manager.

This come as no suprise of course. You got the sense the O’Connor felt like he had to take the reins again this year rather than he wanted to. We are about to find out just how good he is. Some say, mostly in Derry that he failed to get the best out of the finest forwards in the country, everyone else points to the glut of All-Ireland’s, Munster titles, and finals. Yes, Kerry struggled this year but Jack coaxed and cajoled as best he could. They very nearly pulled it out of the fire against Donegal despite being ravaged by injury and had they done so it would of been Cork at Croker and we all know how that usually ends.

Maybe or John Evans?

Limited enough options really unless they go with a club manager? Would Fitzmaurice & either of the 2 named above be an option as joint managers?

Pat O'Shea surely has to be a contender for the job. He spent 2 seasons as manager. He won the all ireland the 1st year with kerry retaining the all ireland title that year. It is incredibly difficult to retain an ireland. The following year, kerry lost the final narrowly to Tyrone. The co board chairman is a fellow Dr Crokes man. I dont mean that in a bad way because he doesnt need any pull to get the job as he would be a good appointment. However if you are interested in the kerry job it helps to be close to the executive. His record and achievement from his previous spell in charge are hugely underestimated. I like to see him get the job for 3 years. Let Eamon Fitzmaurice continue with the under 21s during this period with a view to taking on the seniors in a few years time.

I dont see too many other options. Donie Buckley seems to be more of a coach than a manager?

All a bit hypothical to say how Kerry would have got on against Cork this year at croker, they werent good enough to get that far and 2009 is 3 years ago, i think Cork are a lot wiser and have moved on since then and having beaten them already fairly easily i would have fancied our chances, still all hypothetical as they say.

Identical record to John Allen with the Cork hurlers 05/06 for which John gets very little credit.

Judging by his book, Darragh O'Se seems to have fierce time for Pat O'Shea.

Ya looks pretty safe to come out from under the rock now.Keep the hasp off the halfdoor though as the window of opportunity can close very abrutly when dealing with the Kingdom and you may need to make a rather hasty retreat once again back under it

Ya with the conveyor belt of underage talent that ye now possess down in Kerry it looks like we will have a very small window of opportunity alright.

Wishful thinking. When Kerry realise that arrogance and thuggery dont win you All Irelands they might get a big day in Croke Park. In the meantime I think we will get on without them

did a kerryman wipe your eye n copperfacejacks after a match or summit?! You are actually quite a well balanced GAA fan. The chip on one shoulder about kerry balances out the chip on the other shoulder.

who is the we you refer to in your post? are you speaking for some particular group of people in particular?

kerry might not win Sam Maguire for a while but not too many will be in a rush to play Kerry either and sure even if we are down and out for while I doubt whatever county you are from will have caught up to us on the roll of honour by the time we come good again. in the meantime tell us how do your own county rank in the fair play league??

I cant fathom why Pat O'Shea isnt up on more of a pedestal in kerry. His record is impressive. just goes to show how tough it is being kerry manager.

John Allen seems to be doing a good job in Limerick now. I would be critical of him for not picking Wayne Sherlock in that all ireland final they lost to kikenny and then waiting so long to bring him on. other than that hard to be critical of him
