Is it the great Timmy Mac? Ledge from his Blue Demon days! Interviewed me for a job back in the day, nice man.

He's an essential part of RTE's Olympics coverage
Hopefully next time they'll have him commentating on the Dutch women's hockey games
Boom Shaka-Laka, indeed!

Hilarious and class are mutually exclusive. He is absolutely awful. He seems to think that every single basket is the best one ever scored and while I've no doubt he loves basketball he would do us all a favour if he actually commentated in a knowledgeable way as opposed to like a five year old on crack.

If you were spending your time commentating in Neptune Stadium and were now commentating on Kobe & LeBron, you'd think every basket was the best ever too

+1 - juvenile at best. "He shakes it, he bakes it" ... You might get away with it once per game, but every five minutes? Sounds like someone badly imitating an American commentator.which is what it s I guess.

Unlike most of the the rest of the commentators on RTE. He knows his stuff and he is enthusiastic. I liked him
Did you watch the womens 4 x 400 relay - the RTE commentator hadn't a clue who was racing in it
The triathlon commentator kept going on about drafting which is not in place in these ITU events
Lazy and poor research

Enthusiastic. Entertaining. Knowledgeable.
Has all of the above in abundance, making him far better than Ger "The Can" and Marty "Igor the Transylvanian Butler" Morrissey. Some people would want to lighten up in all honesty. He knows the terminology and he's going to use it. He's commentating on one of the greatest national squads ever assembled in the USA, LeBron and Kobe will go down in history as two of the biggest icons ever to play the game. He has over 100 caps for Ireland himself, so he's going to know what's well executed and what isn't.
Timmy McCarthy. The star of London 2012. And may we see him again in the not too distant future hopefully. If there was an event for begrudgery, Ireland would have the monopoly on the gold medal that's for sure.

I watch a lot of NBA and College Basketball on ESPN and I have NEVER heard commentators use terminology like "he shakes, he bakes" or "boom shaka laka" and rarely do you hear "downtown" and you certainly don't hear it yelled the way he does.
No doubt he knows his stuff but his style is absolutely dreadful.

I don't watch basketball so it's not a big deal for me, but he was dreadful. I think he thinks he is part of the show, not just a commentator. Listening to him makes me think that dear old Mick Dunne, Fred Cogley and Jim Sherwin weren't that bad really, they were just a reflection of the greyness of the Ireland of the sixties and seventies. Although, thinking about it.....

He makes it up as he goes along.
Today when playing the replay of a LeBron score, you could see Deron Williams hopping from one foot to another.
Tim, seeing this, roars out "Deron has a hop.......LeBron has a pop".
And the amount of time he mentions "Downtown!", where exactly is Downtown, I thought it was in your own half when you went for a shot. Tim seems to think its any place outside the 2 point zone. Says it a least 50 times a game.
Still though, he is enthusiastic and once commentated on a Munster Senior Championship match.

His description of Mullane's point at 5:50 is priceless! He goes on to describe Seamus Hickey's point later on in the game as 'a rabble rousing score' Hilarious stuff!
