Hard to call. I wonder how much money is there for her to make.
On the other hand she probably has ten years or so as Ladies premier league player-easier money in my book.
What do you think?!

Not sure. I was reading the Mail today and they were saying turning pro in America is a big no. Im no expert but what I was reading it looks like a dangerous game.

She should definitely sign for Arsenal ladies. They win everything so decent money is certainly available there if she takes it

I'm not sure her style is that suited to pro boxing (or needs tweeking).
She's very aggressive, and seems to be happy to ship a few punches in order to land a few.
There's no headgear in the pros, and the fights are longer. She can't fight like she does now anyways.

If she gets a good offer then why not. I'm sure she could adapt her style to the professional game. Amir Khan is apparently interested in her to try and develop women's pro boxing in Europe. So in theory she could stay in Ireland. Lack of decent opposition seems to be a problem - but could see her selling out any venue in the country if she was to fight there.
Is women's soccer fully professional? They seem to get very small crowds from the little i've seen.

There is fcuk all money in women's pro boxing-$20000 would be a good purse over there so I don't really see the big pluses in doing so. She may well get some sponsorship alright but that would probably dry up as soon as the hype dies down. If there was any decent money in women's soccer then she should do that but up to herself I suppose.

Yes.
I think she should give it a go and see how it goes. An initial contract would be high paying considering her profile right now.
Is there a real lure to staying amateur for her considering her dominance of the sport over the last 5 years?
She is pretty well known throughout the world of boxing, even Oscar De La Hoya came out with a congratulations tweet pretty quickly after she won gold. Maybe Oscar sees a chance to fill his own and Katies pockets?

Taylor would be getting paid a lot more than the average fighter because of her profile and because she is so marketable. Her style would quite suit pro, she has it all, not just the speed and technique and balance needed to be a success at amateur but she has power and aggression too.
If a roadmap to a world title could be organised quickly providing she wins her first couple of fights then why not. She seems very much in love with the sport right now and could well be tempted.
Somehow I hope she doesn't though. She has nothing to prove to anyone. Her father doesn't seem positive about her going pro and who could blame him, his reservations could affect her decision, and would she go on to pro without him as trainer?
I'd love to see her take up a different challenge and go play soccer a few years, she could make a decent life out of it for two or 3 years, and represent Ireland, and could always return to boxing for Rio in 4 years time...

She could make as much money if not more through advertising and promotions by staying amateur. She would be starting from scratch as a professional and a defeat early on in her career would pretty much leave her out in the wilderness.

Now that she has realised her life ambition, it will come down to the spondulicks and rightly so.
She has four options
1.Stay amateur and hope to attract significant sponsorship.
2.Turn to professional boxing. But would she get the head pucked off herself in seedy environments.
3.Begin a working career. Has she third level qualifications?
4.Become a professional soccer player. How much would she make as a soccer player?

Making serious money in pro boxing is all about getting bums on seats, and people to turn on tv, whether ppv or subscription.(unless of course a terrestrial station come in with a big initial offer, like itv did with khan and audley harrison at the start of their careers).
Some boxers have no appeal, take chad dawson, a top p4p boxer who has poor appeal, then take someone like dereck chisora, an average boxer who lost 3 of his last 4 fights and then sold out upton park a few weeks back. Chisora is probably financially better off than dawson from boxing.
Based on the support we saw in London Katie would have no bother filling say the capacity of the O2 in Dublin with 14k plus people.

How much would Katie make from a sold out O2 though once Agents, Promoters etc. have snaffled their slice of the cake?

You seem to be making a fairly profound judgement about Taylors motivations. I don't think money is her motivation in life.

I'd love to see her go professional - but only in soccer.
She would raise the profile of the sport enormously and would do wonders for the game !

SLR thats a fairly stark view of life...she is still a very young girl....the mature hollistic sound view would be that whatever sponsorship etc. that she is currently picking up will enable her to pursue whatever amibitions or dreams or preferences she has in lafe....
I hate ending posts with reductionist glib comnets but the the type of decision making logic which say the right road is the road that pays most money/ has most perks is the type of stuff that fupped up the country for the past 10 years.......

Her motivation in life was to become an Olympic Gold Medallist. She has achieved that goal, but now she is clearly considering her options such as an opportunity to turn professional.

She got a blast of a's in her leaving cert according to the missus!!
Not much money in ladies football..she wouldn't do well as a pro boxer IMO
I reckon she will stay amateur or quit boxing altogether and go in to media etc
Best of luck to her whatever she does

There is no 100% womens pro league in europe or US anymore....many premier league womens sides have had the plug pulled on them. Most players do part time work , in the manner of LoI soccer players. It would be a labour of love decision, nothing wrong with that at all , but it would not be a financial home run.
Wicklow ladies footballers won a junior all ireland 1 year or two ago didnt they!! Katie would be be a dynamo around the middle for them in the ladies games!!

Her brother is the youngest Professor of Maths in the history of Trinity College so brains obviously run in the family.

Agree 100%. I hadn't seen her box too much before the olympics but she seemed to take far too many for my liking. A McCullough type fighter, which is never a good thing when it comes to pro.
I'd go and play soccer or stay amatuer if I were her. I don't think the media suits her either.

Her Principal was on the Tom Dunne show last week, said she got around 500 points, and that was despite apparently being away for a few weeks for soccer and boxing committments in the run up to the exams.
Just heard an interview there with her on Newstalk and she was adamant she was open to anything, and if the right Pro contract came in she would look at it as she has to look after her future.
But i think theres a fair bit of ambition in her, and the smarts, to want to develop a decent Pro Womens boxing scene in Europe, so she might go a very commercial route at some stage.

If I was her ( and I am neither a boxer or a woman!!) I would go back to college, play some decent level soccer ( ladies football if I WAS her would be my preference) , do some media work and enjoy the benefits of my hard work in giving me the fredom to pursue whatever role in life I want
