Possibly are enough galway cork threads already but hell this is a hurling forum first and foremost and every Limerick league game seems to get 3 or 4 threads of its own!!!

This evening on a slow and enjoyable journery back from the game we were getting more and more excited in our hyperbole.....however I think I made valid point with the following...

That this was Galways first win against a reasonable hurling side when starting the game as favourites since the 1990 semi-final against Offally outside of back door or round robins games.

granted cork were beaten in last couple of years in qualifiers but the championship feels much differnt in teh current format from the quater finals onwards so I am slightly discounting those.

While have had expected wins over offally and wexford since coming into leinster neither county woudl say they are going too well or would be classed as "divison 1" standard in the gaelic football meaning of the term.....

There was also the 1 point win in round robin against limerick in 2005 but that was not knock out

Our prior wins of note in the period were in 93 as underdogs v tipp, in 2001 as underdogs v KK and in 05 when both Tipp and KK were favourites on the day.....

Hence this win was a significant day in halting that slide
