There's a kfc just before the entrance to Golden Island Shopping Centre!
There used to be a restaurant in town called 'Hatters' which was pretty nice, not sure if it's still there or what it's like now.
Also, that place in the programme 'the Restaurant', the Wineport, is just outside the town.

I'd imagine there's a Supermacs there somewhere. Can't beat the Chicken Breast Sandwich meal deal.

Kin khao is a very good Thai restaurant close to the castle. I ate there last year and was happy out. Haven't been but the left bank bistro is supposed to be the best place to eat in the town.

The service is disgraceful though, particularly if busy. They are not able to cater for about half the tables they have..Moody waitresses.. Poor show all round

Second lad to criticise said place in 2 days. Just as well it's just a calf and not a sacred cow.

I don't normally criticise restaurants as once the food is good (which it is in TFC) I will tolerate a lot. However, I was absolutely disgusted with the service we got. We were largely ignored by the waiting staff. I was on the point of walking out without paying TBH.

I coudn't recommend the Left Bank Bistro highly enough. Just down below the tower once you cross the bridge.

Just to confirm that myself and onthesod are in no way connected!! I had no issue with the service, just thought the food was over-priced and distinctly average....
In reference to the OP, Kin Khao and Olive Grove both get thumbs up from me...

In fairness Athlone is really good for food.
Top 3 for me would be:
1) Hatters
2) Kin Khao - Think the service is grand
3) Olive Grove
Some town for food in fairness. Pretty sure I'm forgetting one really good one as well!

Kin Khao is the pick of them in a good town for restaurants.
Fatted Calf is good too. You won't be unhappy with Olive Grove or Left Bank. Never ate in Hatters.
For cheap and cheerful there is a lovely Chinese on the road in from Dublin... can't remember the name

Not sure about Athlone restaurants but Frankie Dolans ex Roscommon star rates Bozos Nightclub in Athlone as his Favourite Venue
