Rachel Allen admits she's received hate mail and nasty calls over her posh accent
CELEBRITY chef Rachel Allen has told how she has been on the receiving end of nasty phone calls and letters over her perceived posh accent.
The 40-year-old chef reveals that when she first came to prominence the jibes did upset her:
“They used to really upset me, but now I realise there’s nothing I can do about them,” she tells the RTE Guide.
“It’s beyond my control so there’s no point in me worrying about it really.”
The TV chef who grew up in South Dublin with an Icelandic mother, insists that she is not affected or posh, despite barbed comments that include accusations that she’s a Nigella Lawson wannabe:
“I’m not affected and people who really know me know that I’m not. But there’s freedom of opinion and speech so that’s fine. I have always believe it is nice to be nice. I treat people the way I like to be treated myself,” she insists.
The mum of three who is holidaying in Majorca with her two sons, daughter and husband, found herself embroiled in controversy last year when she posted a picture on Facebook of herself brandishing a shotgun with a brace of dead birds, in an incident that has become known as ‘Pheasantgate’.
She insists that she never wanted to cause controversy: “I can understand why people would be upset by images of me holding dead pheasants because that’s not for everyone. The photograph was like ‘ha, ha, look what I’m doing, here are some pheasants that I’m going to use to make a game terrine to give my family after Christmas’.
But she is adamant: “I didn’t want to offend vegans. It’s those people that I didn’t want to offend.”

Disgraceful!
It shows the real chip on the shoulder mentality from bog trotters.
I doubt well spoken people abuse culchies over their accents in the same manner.

Jesus, she is nearly as self obsessed and stupid as Bressie and Bicycle Kick have proven themselves.
However, I have some news which should reduce the mental trauma.
The accent she uses could never be described as posh.

She had a swimming pool in the back garden growing up in Killiney. Forgive me if I class that as posh Rachel !
Another self promoting celeb who the topic starter would be as well off not promoting imo.
How that family still remain acceptable to the glitterati in Montrose tells you all need to know about your betters as a sidenote. There's plenty of other things they could be getting hatemail for.

The only issue I have with her is that essentially she's made her name by riding the coattails of her mother-in-law's mother-in-law.

There is something so smug, annoying and patronising about the whole Allen franchise. Maybe I'm an old cynic but when one marries into a career and the next generation does the same, you get the feeling that it's more about the business than the family.
