A true legend and in all likelyhood about to receive his 9th Senior AI Hurling medal. The greatest of all time without doubt.

Bold boy!
All those KK players will surely lose the run of themselves with such praise.

Not!

Is this the beginning of a concerted effort by the Galway posters here to big up the Kilkenny team in the lead up to September 9 I wonder? Can we expect to see thread titles such as the "The Majestic Tommy Walsh" or "The Unconquerable Mick Fennelly" perhaps?

Thats it boy, start the threads to build up Kilkenny so Galway can sneak in under the radar and snatch Liam. They don't half make Cute Hoors in the Wesht !!

Would agree with the sentiments though. There's a thread on here somewhere about Shefflin stepping down, saying he's too old and can't run. The way he setup the first goal the other day put that to bed fairly quickly, he skinned the Tipp backs and produced a 30 yard hand pass assist after swapping hands.

That play just summed him up for me, a bit like Canning, he was never the fastest, but you don't have to be when the genius in your head gives a 5 yard start on the defender and then have the vision, skill and timing to deliver the perfect, killer pass! Pure quality, sheer class, simply the best.

That goal was worth the admission price alone. The initial control and turn was class.

His point off a throw ball in last year's final was class too - brilliant first touch and turn.

The man is a legend without doubt. I'm far too young to judge how he compares up with the great players of the past but he is one of the best I've seen.

However I think he's reached the stage now where even when he does fairly basic things well it's lauded as being a stroke of genius or when he has a decent game it's said he was outstanding. Realistically he didn't actually have a great game last Sunday, he was one of the quitest Kilkenny forwards although his assist for Reid's goal was top drawer but apart from that I didn't think he contributed much from play.

If he gets an All Star this year it'll be a softish one I think (unless of course he has an outstanding final) as against Dublin he just scored frees, he was ok in the Leinster final, good against Limerick and yesterday he really only scored the frees.

He was a great player but I don't think he's really among the real top class forwards in the game anymore. He's still very good though.

He is the best I have seen, he is the conducter he dosent need to score. Did Tipp ever beat Kilkenny in the champioship when he played a full game?.

+1 One of the greatest. But agree that anything he did half decent on Sunday was lauded. He did one good thing, which was excellent but that was all. The point was the last puck of the game and didnt matter. You can certainly say that Fogarty and Reid were better than him on Sunday. Quite possible too Larkin, Power and Fennelly. They definetly got on more ball. Obviously for what he has done over the years is unreal and its the consistency really but I hate when players are praised for something they have done in the past when they play an average game. No way is he in All Star position at the moment.

Is this the right thread to discuss the form of Darach Honan?
