Anyone ever holiday in Nantes?
If so, what was your experience? Would you recommend?

Passed through it afew times going to west coast. Bite the bullet and go out west to Les Sables Dollone. Lovely French Coastal Town with heaps of Campsites of varying standard around it. Holidaying in a French City in summer is a bit like going to Crete in November. The f***ing place is more or less shut down and you'll want to travel to the coast. One thing I'll say about the Vendeens ie those from Nantes to the west coast They'll let you use your "School French" more than Parisiens!!!

+1 for les Sable D'Olonne. Spent 2 of the past three Summer Holidays on a campsie in La Chaume, which is the village on the outskirts. Plenty of beaches, watersports, cycling, forests etc

I spent about 4 nights in Nantes a few years ago but we had two small kids with us so I'm not sure will i be much help. It is a beautiful city and if you are going with a lady then it is fantastic for shopping particularly the old part of town. The area down by the castle of the dukes of Brittany is awesome on a sunny day and the Cathedral is damn impressive if that's your thing. There is a very unusual and popular tourist attraction called the Machines de L'Ile which is well worth a visit but I wouldn't bother going for a ride in the contraption, it's a laugh for a few minutes but goes on way too long. Lovely restaurants, cafes, crepes, ice cream etc, not sure about nightlife as i said but i think it does have a fairly bohemian college scene, go for it.

Not a million miles from the Loire Valley either.
Vendee region is a great spot also.
