Maurice Fitz, Jack O'Shea or Mick O'Connell.
Mikey Sheehy and Pat Spillane there or thereabouts as well.

Ironically Mick O'Connell didn't make the Indo's best ever Kerry team recently.

Can only be the peerless Sean Purcell. Even Mayo men who have seen him admit this.

If I was to pay to watch one man at the top of his game then it would be Michael Donnellan. His inter county career was way too short. He was the most natual looking player I've ever seen on the ball.

Jack O'Shea was brilliant to watch as well

Well in fairness that even supercedes Whelehan not getting an All-Star in '94 in the glaring omissions list, especially when you consider that O'Connell came 4th in the Indo's best footballers over the last 125 years list.

I seem to recall Sean O'Neill outshining Micko in the 1968 Final
He was one classy player

Here he is, commenting on the 2010 version of Down

The 1980 (i think?) final between Roscommon & Kerry was on TG4 last week. Jeez, the rossies really left it behind them. 3 or 4 simple frees missed - no such carry on from Mikey Sheehy though. Roscommon looked every bit as good as Kerry.

John Egan looked to be the beating heart of that Kerry team - he was everywhere.

Yeah John Egan was superb as always but Tim Kennelly gave his greatest display in a Kerry jersey on that wet, windy and cold day.

Agreed, with a little more belief, Roscommon would have won it.

An extremely controversial thing to say, but Dermot Earley bottled it that day. If he had scored all the placed balls he missed the Rossies would have held out. Earley was a fine man and a wonderful footballer but it's for this reason that I'd wouldn't put him in the pantheon of the 'really greats'. His brother Paul was also culpable when Meath beat Roscommon in the '91 semi. Rossies had the beating of Meath that day but surrendered the initiative as the second half wore on. Had they got to the final, who knows? They'd have given plenty of it to Down who were also an open footballing team.

The weather conditions on the day were atrocious and it's unfair to blame anyone for missing frees on a day like that.
That was a great Roscommon team as was the Offaly team or that period too....but shure aren't all our girls lovely and All Irelands soft, yerra.

True, though Earley was one of the greatest dead ball kickers of the time (of any time). Believe me, nothing against a man who was universally admired and a great ambassador (not just of GAA).

Maurice Fitz. Legend.

No other words needed to describe him.
