Lads anyone know or whats the most likely to happen here with the venue.

Assuming Clare beat Antrim it will be Clare v Galway or Kilkenny.

Fixed for Saturday, September 15.

It is unlikely to be Croke Park or could it be there? Thurles?

Venue is Thurles unless Tipp are involved for the foreseeable future.

As a nuetral I find it a pity that the u21 final couldn't be brought to a smaller venue (capacity wise) than Thurles. It would lead to a much better atmosphere at the game (An All-Ireland atmosphere!) and probably would be a better experience for players and supporters. A crowd of 20,000 which is probably the absolute max that will go to the U21 All Ireland this year would be lost in Thurles but if the match was staged in Tullamore/Portlaoise the atmosphere would be electric.

i agree I rember seeing an 21 football final between Roscomman and Kerry in Cusak park in Clare. It was one of the best atmospheres I have been a i.e atmosphere per person ratio! This was as a neutral watching the match!

from what i am aware bord gais, the sponsors, approached the gaa at the beginning of 2010 requesting a stand alone fixture and venue for the final, as it had been used as prelude to the camoige final for the previous few years.
so it was decided it would be played in thurles the sat after the senior final under lights no matter who the finalist were.

Fair enough I stand corrected, the point is still the same!

And even when Tipp are involved as well, wasn't the Galway/Tipp final played there?

Thurles will probably have most finals, but if Antrim qualified I'd say it would be played further north.
For example I couldn't see Kilkenny-Antrim being played in Thurles, maybe somewhere like Navan or Parnell Park.

Venue is Thurles for some time to come. Makes no difference if Tipperary are involved. Remember 2010 when Galway were trounced by Tipperary.

For a number of years it was a double header with Camogie finals in Croke park then the camogie assoc decided to play all their finals in Croke park so it became a triple header with Junior, inter and senior. As it was their day it was their choice.

As a result the Under 21 had to get a new permanent home.

Best places from travel and athmosphere point of view are
either Portlaoise (access) or Tullamore (athmosphere).

Now that we have motorways the drive from Clare to Thurles is soul destroying.

Thurles set in stone since 2010.Was there last year for galway v dublin.Few things i noticed were it was heavy enough pitch which also can maybe go against a lighter team who may have been going well on a drier sod. other strange thing was with start of 7 o clock game started in brightness but darkness falling with lights on from 20 mins on.whatever about football hurling is not perfect for under lights. whatever provided we get over antrim we will all be there whatever time of day or night its on.

True but Galway almost refused to travel in 2010 because of the unfair advantage Tipp have in Thurles. So it was agreed then to play final in Thurles in future except when Tipp are involved. If I recall very few Galway supporters travelled in protest and Tipp won handy.

I'd be inclined to agree with you. Portlaoise would be my venue of choice. Thurles gets enough matches so no harm in having it in another ground that has decent facilities.
