...but it's ok to be shacked up!
Who thinks up those scenarios?

We have awful double standards in this country. We give out til we are blue in the face about foreigners coming into Ireland and taking our jobs. And yet, when some lass from another country comes in and takes our lovely girl contest, not a peep out of us.

Saw the tail end of this last night, only about 6 or 7 women and have to say that I through the standard was very disappointing. Very poor quality indeed. One of them sounded like a man and another one won a competition in a pub to be sent forward.

She didn't just sound like a man, she actually was a man, N16 (S)he was The Transgenderal Rose, replacing The Tasmanian Rose who hasn't been seen for a few years now...Get with the times man!

The one that was going out with Kieran Joyce was a bit of an ape. She didnt know the difference between a back and a forward.

she was representing waterford. Her comments might explain a lot of waterford's hurling woes since '59.

As opposed to the rigorous testing that goes on for the rest of them?

how over 6 hours of prime time viewing is sucked up by this interminable dreary bore fest every year is truly beyond me! By all means, continue with beauty 'pageant' locked in a bygone area but dont continue to foist it on a long suffering viewing public,

Maybe because it attracts a huge TV audience and generates huge advertising revenue for RTE, maybe that's why they put it on TV every year?
There are other channels and things to do in the evening than watch RTE.

My thoughts exactly as I was reading the topic Jo, we really are a masochistic people, forcing ourselves to watch 4 hours(?) of telly that we do not want to watch.
Didn't see the first night, and only saw the tail end of last night, but from what I saw once again you had a fine bunch of classy talented high achieving well spoken young wans who are a credit to themselves and their families. Of course they would fall somewhat short of the bar set by AFR posters.

Miss Malawi must have been watching the Tipp-Kilkenny game in her dressing room before the contest as she did a foul worse than anything seen the hurling game...

maybe just confining it to KK and Tipp ladies could be a tv hit..want cameras everywhere though so maybe sky could cover it.

yes there are other channels to watch, mostly rubbish, but as a tv license holder who has to shell out the ridiculously high fee of 160 euro a year, Im entitled to air my grievances about this yearly vomit inducing programme that passes for 'entertainment'!! One night would be hard enough to stomach, but 2 nights is taking the pi"s big time. Its all fine and dandy for a beaming uncle pat and aunty may to look on appreciatively at their simpering little niece doing an Irish jig up on the stage but after the umpteenth time, it does tend to jar on the brain, if you want to sit thru 3 hours + of sheer tedium then why not trot away down to Tralee and grab yourself a ringside seat, in the meantime the public broadcaster can get back to airing something a bit more suitable for prime time tv...

What part of the response did you not understand? Get over it and stop moaning for the sake of it, it is one of RTE's most popular shows, I haven't seen it for 20 years but i don't mind that others enjoy it. My wife would view the All Ireland or world cup finals similarly, should she write a letter to RTE?
