Ah...d'oul spud.
My father used say that the day you had no spuds for the dinner you never felt full and were always that bit hungry.
He mightn't be too far wrong, either.

Never mind potatoes. Onions are out of control altogether.
About 2p for a medium one 20 years ago. Look at them now. Gone from the hot dogs and burgers - "meat" is obviously cheaper :-)

I dug a few records last night. I set them early May and they are still small enough. I have 2 drills of Golden Wonders but I'll leave them till later in the year.

I'd say the shíte summer will mean fewer spuds and prices rising. I saw in North Dublin that even where spuds had grown well, the ground was too wet for harvesting machines.

A lot of blight weather this year too and don't start me on the slugs.......

With the recession as an excuse, the branded goods have all but disappeared from my house.
Bachelors peas replaced with Lidl/Aldi/Tesco's equivalent which is one big green blob.
Kelloggs cornflakes replaced with something that has the texture of hamster litter.
However 2 bastions of decency I've kept are meat from the butcher and decent spuds.
Which supermarket's spuds are the best?

Kelloggs cornflakes are irreplaceable....one of the few products where one should not touch an own branded good for the sake of a few euro
