It is amazing that he hardly ever spoke about his moon walk, it led a lot of the conspiracy theorists to crazily claim that the reason he never spoke about it was because it was all a fake, and he could not speak about it.

Because he was the mission commander.
RIP to one of histories most iconic figures. Whatever about the great explorers of new world, he truly stepped on a alien one. If you sit back and think about how primitive those Apollo spacecraft actually where compared to today's technology (I think I heard a modern pocket calculator has numerous times to memory and capacity of the computers that kept the Apollo control module and lander going) and yet they never blinked when faced with the challenge presented.
I got to see him in the flesh as a school kid when he came to Tralee in 1996 to launch a special exhibit on NASA in Kerry County Museum. Truly Neil, you had the right stuff!

RIP To the greatest pioneer known to mankind today. First man to set foot on soil on a place outside planet earth. To reference JFK's speech at Rice University September 1962 "we choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard.(must be recited in a very thick Massachusetts accent)

I read somewhere that he misquoted the little speech he made as he set foot on the moon "One small set for man......". It should properly have been "One small step for a man......" It makes a subtle difference.
Is that right?

I read today that, as the module was coming in to land on the moon, Neil had to try to manually steer it to a safe landing spot. With just 20 seconds of fuel left and just before Mission Control could give the order to abandon, he managed to set it down safely. Truly one of the great men of our time

Who anchored the RTE program covering the landing?
At approx 3.30am on 21st July 1969 our time.
Guess you had to be there.

Yeah, I seem to remember Kevin O'Kelly handling most of those early missions on RTE.

Did you ever see the footage of him operating the test lunar lander nicknamed the flying bedstead. Basically a platform with four rockets, 1 in each corner that he had to control to give him lift, speed & direction. In the one test they did before going to the moon, he lost control and ejected just as it was tipping over. Went straight back to office and never mentioned it to anyone there that he had nearly died.
Some thought he didnt have "the right stuff" esp Aldrins dad & a few fellow candidates. He wasnt military if I recall. The lunar landing proved he had it in spades. A true hero for all mankind. Admire him more that he never cashed in on his unique experience. RIP Neil Armstrong, you are gone back to the stars.
