Most say that Kilkenny will not be beaten twice in the same year. Can Galway take inspiration from Clare in 1997, where if I remember correctly similar claims were made about Tipp?

ive thought about clare 97 in the last few days but actually more when thinking about donegal: i.e force of nature team that are leaving others in the game because they cant score goals themselves

Clare in 97 were pretty much at the peak of their powers and had already won the AI in 95,whereas Tipp were a pretty average side that hadn't won anything since 91 and wouldn't win again till 01. If Galway perform as they did in the opening half of the Leinster final for the full 70 mins then they're in with a shout, but they won't catch KK cold a second time and that may make the difference.

It was an average enough Tipp team at the time that few even withing Tipp expected them get to an AI final and Clare were clearly the best team in the country at that time.

But Galway should not be listening to talk about KK will not be beaen twice and backlashes etc , Galway have got to aim to make this final all about them and what they will do , learn from the mistakes of Tipp this year and focus less on KK and more on their own game more.

Eamon O'Shea said before the 2010 AI final that Tipp barely spoke about KK before the match and everything was geared to putting their own attacking plan into action , with Declan Ryan you get the feeling that it was all about KK and very little about what Tipp were going to do with the ball when they got it.

Galway have the players to hurt KK , it is all about getting the ball to them.

Food for thought all right. I have liked the Galway approach all through the championship(LF and SF). The mantra seems to be that they are coming up "to play Galway hurling in Croke Park"; in other words they will be concentrating on their own game and getting that right, not playing anyone elses game. Tipp probably tried to outmuscle, Limerick had a go too, and as has been said many times on AFR thats the rock you perish on against Kilkenny.

No doubt Galway are not at the stage of Clare in 97, but I think Galway are not in the least concerned about the Cats in the final. Their only focus is on getting their own game right; if they do that they wont be too far away. To that end the u21 SF was merely a distraction.

Probably more of a comparison with Clare of 95.

New team up against the best team in the country by a mile.

They won it but were very very lucky.
