Anyone know what the story here is.Apparently miltown got a walkover from wolfe tones earlier in the year and now want a 3 way play off because they could not improve their score difference by getting a walkover and 3 teams finished on the same number of points, however all 3 teams are going throught to the quarter finals. Miltown want a play off but its pretty obvious that they only want this to kill some time to get eoin cleary back from his injury. Eire og and kilmihil , the other two teas involved have now agreed to let miltown finish first and so they wont have to play a play-off.miltown were due to play eire og tonight in the play off but that has been cancelled and the pairings for the quarter finals have being made and due to be played at the weekend.However, miltown have appealed again and want the play-off to be played.they are going to go over to ennis tonight to play eire og, eventhough eire og will not turn up and the game has already been cancelled.This is a very complicated system at the moment and its clear miltown are only doing this as they have no chance of winning the minor without eoin clearu

Don't know the ins and out of this, but if theabove is correct then the county board would want to grow a pair and sort things out.

i know story here . this night two weeks ago wolfe tones due to play miltown in shannon. match was defereed to following monday night in shannon. wolfe tones could not field due to debs dance in one shannon schools miltown got walk over.
as all 3 teams level on points scoring diff comes into play .but as a walk over in one games this cannot now happen so their has to be play offs . i know where u coming from as regards miltown wanting to prolong this for injured player.in normal circumstances play offs would and should take place. BUT THEIR IS ONE PROVISION IN THE RULES.
that is if play offs only to decide who comes 1st 2nd 3rd etc then county board or ruling authority in this case clare minor football board can do a toss to decide finishing positions rather than play offs. that is what they are doing it seems and miltown would be best advised to abide by this in my humble opinion.

Not so sure, I think rule is quite specific and means play off needed, if Miltown insist this will happen. Just on the same competition interesting that we are fixed to play Minor Football 1/4 final on Sunday at 1pm and u16 hurling game at 6:30pm on Sunday ( and Minor hurling on Friday. Is that not a bit much to ask of players on all 3 panels?

Good to hear,common sense prevailing. I'm pretty shrewd on rules myself Roadrunner, and I can assure you if Miltown pushed it they would win their case at any level. Luckily we don't have to wait to find out

miltown have no case. as it quiet clearly in the rules if teams level on points and play offs only to decide finishing positions only. ie after play offs all teams in play offs still involved then and this is only occasion the controlling body in this case clare minor football board can toss to decide finishing positions.

Hope to make our game vs Eire Og tomorrow. From what I can gather this is the most open championship in years. Teams in both groups have taken points off each other. From our own viewpoint we have a nice team and have most of last years team which won the B championship. The Townies however have a good team and would have a few dangerous forwards. Heres hoping.

Good man road runner. here is the rule
"(5) If a Championship is partly organised on a League
basis, the following Regulations shall apply:
(a) League results shall be credited as follows: 2
points for a win, and one for a draw.
(b) If a Team is Disqualified or Retires during the
course of the League Stage, its played Games
shall stand and its unplayed Games shall be
awarded to the Opposing Teams.
(c) Except where provided for otherwise in County
Bye-Law or in Competition Regulation, when
Teams finish with equal points for Qualification
for the Concluding Stages, or for Promotion
or Relegation, the tie shall be decided by the
following means and in the order specified:
(i) where two Teams only are involved - the
outcome of the meeting of the two Teams
in the previous game in the Competition;
(ii) Scoring Difference (subtracting the total
Scores Against from total Scores For);
(iii) Highest Total Score For;
(iv) A Play-Off.
Exceptions to (c):
(1) In relation to means (ii) and (iii) above,
if the accumulated scores of a team, so
involved, are affected by a disqualification,
loss of game on a proven objection,
retirement or walk over, the tie shall be
decided by a Play-Off."
When u get chance you might point out where here it mentions toss (and its not covered in byelaws of Clare GAA btw)
