Some great performances today on both sides. Henry was KK's outstanding forward and deserved to be shortlisted. Joe was serious in first half but was completely starved of possession in 2nd. Iarlaith hurled well but surely Paul Murphy's performance merited at least a mention. he was head and shoulders kk's best defender throughout. For what its worth IMO
1.PAul Murphy
2.Johnny Coen
3.Henry Shefflin

2. Paul Murphy
3. Henry Shefflin
4. Joe Canning
5. Johnny Coen.

Brian Hogan deserves a mention too for his 2nd half performance.

I agree, in fact I picked him straight after the match. Thought Coen was brilliant as well and it goes without saying that the two snipers were a joy to watch.

Tannion probably deserved it for the sheer amount of work he got through.
Hogan second half was immense as was Paul Murphy. The galway full back line all had fine games and Skehill never put a foot wrong, the save was amazing. Shefflin had a great game as well, Canning in the first half but 3 or 4 wides from frees he'd normally have scored.

Iarla Tannion
was down twice with injury, one of the doctors/physio signalled to replace him, but he soldiered on

Coen doesn't deserve to be mentioned after throwing the hurl in the second half....John Tennyson was (righly) lambasted for doing this in the 2010 final but nothing has really beeen said about Coen doing it yesterday or Curran doing in the semi final. Agree with previous posts that Tannion deserved it but Murphy was also superb

He was already on a yellow when he threw it, and was very very lucky to stay on the field. Was it the poor Cork goalie went for much less earlier in the year.

Tannian definitely deserved it. He was excellent throughout. The belt he got around the ankles after 5 minutes seemed to light a fire under him. Brian Hogan actually had a shaky first half when Galway ran directly at the Kilkenny defence. It was only when they started lobbing in some aimless high balls that he came into the game.

Not Shefflin.. definitely not Shefflin.. His performance and the all licking by the pundits did my head in last night. No mention of the damage he did to KK's start to the game with missed frees and lack of first half input. The majority of his frees were straight forward and should not be considered as 'inspirational'. He cowered at the chance to actually put his stamp on the game with the penalty, with this he displayed his consideration for 'Henry' moreso than the KK team - not a time for self preservation. A great hurler who has been blown out of all proportion by pundits who are afraid to challenge the aristocrats of hurling.. Pathetic.

There was a hurley thrown for Galway's second goal as well.
Tannion was a fair choice with Coen and Murphy close.

Don't know why anyone is not mentioning David Collins who had a powerful game throughout. Moore also very solid.

Tannion was everywhere but he didn't set up scores or use the ball intelligently enough for me. It was a great mullocking performance but in no way comparable to previous man of the match recipients- In my opinion.
Paul Murphy for me was the best man on the field, Henry 2nd and Iarla 3rd.

Yeah - felt the same about Tannion. Got through a huge amount of work but not a hell of a lot came off his play. The last ball he got epitomised his afternoon - did brilliantly to win possession but hit it far too early and drove it wide when tehre weere one or two better options. Still though, for his work-rate alone, he was my man of the match.

Agreed. I think Colm Keys gave Collins a rating of 5 in this mornings Indo. Flabbergasting stuff.

I hope yuou were supporting your neighbours yesterday but I doubt it from your comment! Tannian did set up scores if you actually looked at the match objectively and took off your black and amber tinted glasses. Most notably he saved the ball from dribbling out over the sideline in injury time to set up Davy Glennon who won the last minute free. I know you're used to mullockers in Clare down through the years but Tannian is not one of them!

There was no hurl thrown at Burke for his goal-Murphy made a legitimate challenge on him and lost the hurl in the tackle from what I could see..open to correction on this though
