ARTICLE from BBC
Leeds United are already occupying the lowest league position in their 88-year history - but how can they stop things from getting any worse?
The beleaguered Elland Road club have won only one of their last 10 matches and are six points adrift of safety at the bottom of the Championship.
With 18 games left, a first-ever relegation to the third tier of English football is looming - and time is running out for Dennis Wise's side to save themselves.

Can Dennis Wise and Gus Poyet keep Leeds up?
BBC Sport's Chris Bevan
606: Have your say
Four new faces have arrived during the January transfer window but results have yet to improve and a difficult trip to fellow strugglers Hull City awaits on Saturday.
The Leeds squad are at a training camp in Cyprus this week and Wise's assistant Gus Poyet tells BBC Sport how they plan to beat the drop.
TEAM BONDING
This camp is to sort things out for the rest of the season. We are getting the players together to concentrate on the task ahead.
We knew we were signing new players - and we knew we needed the new players to get to know the rest of the squad as soon as possible.
This was the last opportunity to get all the lads together and make sure we know what is coming.
WHAT MATTERS NOW
There are three months of the Championship left in which we have to win at least half of our games.
BOTTOM OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP
18th Leicester....P28 Pts 33
19th Hull City......P29 Pts 31
20th Luton Town P29 Pts 31
21st QPR.............P29 Pts 30
22nd Barnsley....P29 Pts 29
23rd Leeds Utd...P28 Pts 24
24th Southend....P29 Pts 24
Every game is a cup final to get those wins - and no other results are any good to us.
From now until the end of the season, let's say there is a table in there from Leicester, who are nine points ahead of us, downwards.
There are teams with points already and we are on zero with Southend. That is a mini-league that we have to win, or at least make sure we are not in the bottom three.
Results matter now more than performances. It is not how we get those wins that matters, just that we get them.
You cannot say that at the beginning of the season when you have got 46 games in front of you but when you reach this stage, with the position we are in, it is definitely not about performances anymore.
To be fair we have played better than before in our last four games but we have only won one of them.
When you play well it should be easier to win games because when you play well you are supposed to be creating chances and in control of the game but it is not working for us.
NO EXCUSES
WISE & POYET AT LEEDS
P16 W4 D2 L10 F21 A29
We knew it would be hard when we came here from Swindon in October.
We knew from the first day the situation with the players and the financial situation. All that was clear so we cannot complain about that.
This club is huge. It is a beautiful club to work at and has so much potential - but for now our only aim is to stay in the Championship.
WISE & POYET AT SWINDON
P16 W8 D5 L3 F22 A14
And I am still confident we can do it. Even if we have lost a few games and we are running out of matches.
That is why we need the points now - and when I say now, I mean the next game, not the following week.
But we have already proved we can score goals so as soon as we put right the small things we doing wrong at the back I am confident we can turn around the results.
STICKING TOGETHER
LEEDS' JANUARY SIGNINGS
Tresor Kandol (£0.2m)
Tore Andre Flo (free)
Robbie Elliott (free)
Miguel Armando Sa (loan)
Alan Thompson (loan)
The supporters have been absolutely magnificent so far. We have had great support considering the position we are in.
The only thing I can say to them is to keep going like that until the end of the season. At the end of the season they can make their opinions known but we need to stick together right now - we really do need all the help we can get until the very last.
The team spirit is better now - it is quite good. We have got better fitness and like I said before we have been playing better.
But all that together is not enough. We need something extra and we have to make sure that comes in the next game".
I hope so.........Jees I dont know how I feel. Numb shocked just unbelievable the we fall so far. Sacking Blackwell was a huge mistake and I knew it at the time.

No.
They are finished, bad karma is dragging them down.
They are scum so who cares.
Try following a real team, like Blackburn for instance.

Read in the Sunday Times this week that Gary Kelly (remember him) is still earning £46,000 a week with Leeds. Happy days.

Supporting Leeds and Sligo it learns you to be postive person and never give up. Leeds getting to champions league semi and Sligo beating Tyrone and Kildare in croker. 10 YRS ago I wouldnt of belived that. So I wont be draged down by your obvious hate for leeds. We are still getting gates of 20000 so fans havent given up yet. There is always a chance.

With an average age in the team on Saturday of 31 & loan players left right & centre its hard to get too optimistic.
However finishing 4th last in this division is still well dooable IMHO.

He is not on £46K a week. He's on £25K and is deserving
of it.
Wise seems to have dropped him and was probably player
of the season before that.
I have to agree with Boltok. Terribly bad karma around the
place. The club cannot survive and will be relegated.

Even £25k a week is hugh money in the Championship Nomad, and far too much for a player even as loyal as Kelly.
Will they survive, I'll have to say no. Forest on the way up as Leeds fall further down the league. Shame.

It's hard to see Leeds escaping the drop. Wise doesn't have the intelligence to mastermind an escape & seems to be Bates' puppet. He has taken the vice-captaincy from Gary Kelly & Bates has taken to blaming Kelly for their financial situaution saying that the money generated from the champions lge. run has been blown on Kellys' contract. Seems to me as if they are preparing Kelly to be the scapegoat when things go wrong. They'll end up relegated & saying they couldn't bring in any more players with the already spiralling wage bill.

I don't think so. His move from City to Liverpool took care of that. Robbie Keane might still be on the payroll though.

They're not allowed play, are they? Perhaps Sir Alex could send Alan Smith back there on loan to give them a dig out - he never tired of professing his love for Leeds until he left them.
Scumbag players, s****g fans, a s****g chairman and a s****g manager. What's not to like? Long may they plummet.

I'm here...
And you believe a single word that Master Bates has ever uttered?
If Bates told me that today was Tuesday, I would first check the
calendar.
Bates knew this when he took over the club. It's not Kelly's
fault that Ridsdale signed him up to that contract, is it? Kelly
is not the reason Leeds are where they are. Very far from it.
What's the point having him in the reserves and/or bench *if* he
is fit.
The stories about Leeds players' contracts are legion. I lay the
blame squarely at the feet of Ridsdale and O'Leary.
I hope that there is a follow-up to Damned United in the pipeline
as there has to be a blockbuster in the fate of _Leeds United_
over the last five years.
Really is hard to care. We are as good as relegated...

My favourite Leeds contract story is about the time the very mediocre Seth Johnson and his agent went in to negotiate personal terms with Peter Ridsdale and agreed beforehand they'd ask for £25,000 per week and settle for £15,000.
His first offer was: "£35,000 a week, take it or leave it."
They took it.
When asked to justify the size of his salary by a journalist after failing to shine at Elland Road, Johnson's argument was: "He offered me £35,000 per week. Was I supposed to ask for less?"
That's irrefutable logic.

AE,
Not quite the way I heard it. In the version I heard, it made
Ridsdale out to be an ever bigger plonker than the story
above does, if that's possible!
Bad Karma. I fully expect Elland Road to be a supermarket
within five years.

Fair enough - these stories get distorted in the telling. In most yarns like this the figures are exaggerated to make it more sensational, but in this case they may well have been lowered to make it sound more plausible.

Pity he wouldn't do the same for his country.
Wouldn't have killed him to make himself 'available for selection'.

Then there was all that testimonial money he gave to charity just to show what a generous man he is. When you examine the facts - fulfilling his contract, giving away hundreds of thousands of pounds without fuss, retiring from international football because he was fed up with performing in the Chipperfield's Circus that is the Rep of Ireland roadshow - you start to see him for the terrible b*****d he really is.
