Just wondering if anyone has been and places they recommend.
Be around end of summer.
Flying to Bangkok, 2/3 weeks, Vietnam as well if lucky.
Idea would be 1 week in a resort in Sunshine / another week in interesting places i.e. Public Parks, Historical Sites.
5-8 lads involved. Any local knowledge of Thailand / Vietnam would be greatly appreciated?

Go trekking in Chiang Mai for three days and go to see the Temle on top of the mountain.
Do a PADI open water diving course in Koh Tao.
See the "sights" in Bangkok.
Have the banter with the Tuk Tuk drivers - they can be annoying but you can get a good laugh out of them also.

If you have time go to Laos. Amazing place - amazing people.

Didn't make it to Vietnam and have conflicting views on it.

5-8 lads, ye dirty pervs! We did the same thing last year, ended up staying in Pattaya, great place but a real eye opener as regards the vice trade, have been at plenty of red light zones in stags around europe but this place was just mind boggling. I wouldnt stay too long in Bangkok, humidity is incredible and the smell is just disgusting.

Playing golf dont go through the hotels they rip you off, just arrive at the golf course, dressed approiately as they are strict on that, will save you a fortune.

Would recommend you go and try and get open water scuba diving certification over there, its about half the price of getting it here and the diving is magnificient.

Check out if there is a full or half moon party while you are there, i think there is one in late August

Time of year you are going you wont get much sunshine, it will be hot and humid but it was cloudy all the time, christmas is their sunny time of year.

And last but not least, dont bring anything with you, just the clothes you are wearing. No suitcases nothing, shirts about two euros, jeans the same all top design fakes, no difference from the real thing. You will get top of the line Polo suitcases for nothing over there. The haggling is good fun too.

Stay away from the drugs unless you are in the arse end of nowhere, if you get caught, you will be either slung in jail or forced to pay big money in a bribe to get off. They are ultra strict even with soft drugs

P.S stay away from the lady boys!

Was in Vietnam 3 times, never been to Thailand. Ho Chi Minh city is amazing, only place I've ever been with no McDs, KFC etc. Amount of child beggars was really sad, though.

Be careful of scams, especially the "I'll be your friend and show you the good places" type. Vietnam is really, really poor, so you'd wanna be careful of pickpockets too. And watch out for the food & water (don't have ice in your drink, make sure you can see the bottles being opened).

Highlights are the Mekong Delta and the Cu Chi Tunnels, and Dong Khoi in the city - amazing nightlife. Check out "apocalypse now" nightclub. Suitably apocalyptic.

Hope that helps, and don't worry, you'll have an amazing time,

Pat Pong in Bangkok is worth visiting.
You should catch a ping pong show for the experience.
If you are looking for girls though, it is really over priced and sleazy.

scuba diving in Koh Tao is simply amazing. I would highly recommend Bans resort. Island is quieter than Samui but well worth the trip.

Go see a few of the countries around Thailand if you can...

Cambodia (Ankor Wat, Pehnom Penn, Sinnoukavilee)
Vietnam (Saignon (Best city I've ever been in), Delat, NaTrang, HoiAn)
Laos (Vang Vieng, Luang Perbang).

Spent 3 months around there in 2003, really enjoyed it.

Was actually going to start a topic on this as well. Heading out at the end of July for 3 weeks - 2 weeks travelling around and a week of R&R somewhere. Arriving pretty much straight to Koh Pang Yang for a full moon part the end of July. Any recommendations for after that? Probably take in Bangkok, Phi Phi and Phuket.

Anyone have any recommendations for where is good spot for a week on a beach type place? Koh Samui is supposed to be good but seems overpriced in comparison to everywhere else.

Any ideas greatly appreciated!

Walking Street in Pattaya is the best spot in the world for 5-8 lads to go out. Every young one behind every bar is available for about €15. There’s no quick in and out either, they’ll come back to your hotel and do what whatever you want. Don’t take the money till their leaving either. The hotels take their I.D. at reception and don’t give it back until they are leaving either, our hotel used ring us and make sure everything was ok before they’d let the girls leave. Its a great set up. They are all are stunners too, some bodies on them. I can’t wait to go back tbh.

Thats nothing George, most of them are young and innocent enough so they'll do anything for you, I had my bird fetch me drink all morning and she even ironed my trousers. If you get an older one they'll get you coke and you can snort away to your hearts content and you'll never have to carry it either. As I said all for about 15 euro for a full 12-14 hours.

Sorry for the late reply.

Just walking around HCM is a real buzz. All the Honda motorbikes and bicycles, so few cars . . . don't know if you're a "smoker", but it appears to be de-facto legal there, guys offering huge bags of the stuff for 10 dollars. Oh yeah, that reminds me; bring (US) dollars and pay for everything in dollars - much handier than using the Dong. Rip-off CDs and books for around 1 dollar each. The rip-off clothes are pretty bad quality, though . . .

Check out the huge market in the middle of the city; can't remember the name of it now, but it's based around a huge roundabout near one of the bus stations. The firing range at the Cu Chi tunnels was awesome (you can fire AK47s if you so wish), and the "American War" museum is a must-see; very sad though . . .If you have time, I'd recommend the overnight trip to the Mekong Delta rather than the day one (I've done both).

Went to a stunning beach about 2 hours drive North of HCM, can't remember the name of that, either! There were lots of bus tours going there. And if you're interested in spending a day or two in Cambodia, it's real easy to arrange a trip from one of the travel agents in HCM.

Hope that helps, you can PM me if you want more information.

Heard of a fella over in Thailand with a group – all middle aged – one asks the other, “can you have a threesome over here” the other lad answers “look its like this, the only limitation is your imagination!” Sounds like it pretty well sums the place up…

I lived in Thailand for about a year back in 2000.
Whenever anybody asks me about advise before going to Thailand the first thing I say is DONT GO TO PATTAYA.It is an absolute hellhole, one big whorehouse.Anything goes there, girls, boys, boys dressed up as girls,.
Its just too much,If you go there your just another sex tourist because Pattaya doesn't offer much else. The beach's there are very very average. The itinerary i post in my next post is one I made up for a friend of mine about four years ago,I also posted it on Clarehurlers.com for somebody else a few years back.
The only thing I would change about it now is,I wouldn't advise going to Koh Samui anymore. It's developed out of control in the last few years and is now unrecognisable and overrun with Brits. Now the Brits that used to go there before were decent people but now when you hear an English Accent its some knuckle with tattoos, ear rings and a shaved head. The type that goes to tenerife and benidorm.
If I was advising an island to go to now it would be Koh Chang.
Koh Chang is the second biggest island in Thailand and is near the Cambodian border. The island hasn't been over- developed like the others because over 90% of the island is national marine park so its protected, plus they never built an airport there unlike
Phuket and Samui.Ok a few 5star resorts have opened up in recent years but at least the place isn't overrun with girly bars. The island is very beautiful and is full of mountains, waterfalls and rainforests and there's plenty of good scuba diving of the coast also.
I used to love the Full Moon Party in Ko Pha Ngan and spent the millennium there. But I went back a couple of years ago and couldn't believe how busy it was. There was barely standing room on the beach. Before the average crowd used be around 8000 but now its more towards 20,000 so be warned.
Its still worth doing once in a lifetime. You should definitely try to go to Laos especially Vang Vieng,I mentioned it in the itinerary i did for a mate four years ago.Its by a river and is surrounded by limestone and is full of tunnels and caves, this is where you can do the river tubbing that somebody mentioned earlier.
Where ever you decide to go you'll have a brilliant time and Thailand is really the land of smiles.A friendlier race of people you won't meet.

This is the itinerary I did for a mate a 4/5 years back.
_____________________________________________________

OK my advise would be to have a few weeks in Thailand and finish up in the North Western town of Nong Khai. From there you can cross the Thai-Laos friendship bridge into Vientiane in Laos and later you can then cross in to Vietnam by land. Then if you wanted to go to Cambodia you could go from Ho Chi Minh.
Anyway here's a suggested itinerary for Thailand and Laos. After a few days in Bangkok head for some sun, sand and sea.The islands in the south are good this time of year cause there's no rain from March to June. The main islands are Koh Samui,Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Tao.A word of warning though if you go to Koh Samui, the main beach Chaweng has developed out of control in the last few years and its like somewhere in Spain now.If you want somewhere quite avoid Chaweng but if your after plenty of nightlife then Chaweng has it all.Bo Phut and MaeNam beach's are much quieter and have also
cheaper accommodation.Ko Pha Ngan island is nearly as big,but is much quiter and tranquil and the beach's are just as beautiful. After a week or two in the sun
head back to Bangkok and take a slow train ride north stopping off in Lopburi and
Sukhotai (Siam's first Capital) to have look at a look at Thailand historic temple
architecture. From here you could go straight to Chaing Mai but if you want something more off the beaten track go west to Mae Sot right on the Burmese border. From Mae Sot north to Mae Sariang you'll find loads of treking, rafting and waterfalls. From Mae Sariang head to Mae Hong Song which is surrounded by loads of various hilltribes some of which only get a visitor once every few months unlike the hilltribes around Chaing Mai who get visitors ever day. Continue north to Tha Ton on the Kok river and you if you want you can boat down the Kok to Chaing Rai.If this all sounds a bit much you could just go straight to Chaing Mai (from Bangkok or Sukhotai) which has a lot of hilltribes, treking and rafting.
I've done the first route and prefer it cause its a bit more adventurous and the treking in Chaing Mai is all tourists routes. If you want to go to Laos from here head east to the town of Nong Khai. Here you can cross the friendship bridge along the Mekon river into Vientiane in Laos. You could take in all the sights in Vientiane and the city of Luag Prabang in a week if you fly between the two.Luag Prabang is a world heritage site and full of French Colonial and Laos architecture. But I would advise after Vientiane head a little bit north to a small very scenic town called Vang Vieng. This is very popular with backpackers who like to relax and smoke the queer stuff. Its by a river and is surrounded by limestone and is full of caves and tunnels some of which you have to get a boat to see.If your going to Vietnam from Laos you can cross by land via Savanakhet and Lao Boa which are further south.I've only been to Vientiane, Vang Vineg and a couple of other small places not really worth mentioning.Although Chong Mek is worth a look, half is on the Thai side and half on the Laos side.It has a huge market which is dirt cheap and again half the market is half in Thailand and the other half in Laos. From Lao Boa which is in central Vietnam you can either head north or south.
