The Championship starts here! Any thoughts on this game? Has to be Westmeath even without Dessie. Longford had a poor league after a promising O`Byrne Cup. Kavanagh has to play well if they are going to make a battle of it. With Gleenon, Bannon and Flanagan all playing well Westmeath will probably win by about 3 points methinks

Home advantage should be a big help to Longford but even so Westmeath have been a revelation in div.2 this year , I know their final win came at the expense of a seriously depleted Dublin side but they had already had beaten them in the league section . Westmeath have also got a notable away result in the league by beating Monaghan in Clones in what in effect was a knockout game , the WM defence is very good and even without D.Dolan it`s hard to look past them .

Westmeath were a complete surprise packet in Div. 2 of the NFL and I doubt if anyone expected them to win promotion before the league started. Longford had a poor campaign in Div. 3 but they have top class forwards in Paul Barden and Brian Kavanagh. Dessie Dolan is a major loss to Westmeath, but they have very good backs. I take Westmeath to win on Sunday and then to lose to Offaly in Tullamore!.
