plenty of hope what with waterford injuries and the match being on in limerick......to be honest i just hope that clare go out and give it socks...that they have some bit of a game plan that they stick to and are hurling fit with players being able to rise control a ball first attempt...win lose or draw i dont particularly care as long as there is some bit of a performance to show that clare hurling is goin in the right direction......and a win would make this all the sweeter....

Would be interesting to hear what real Waterford fans (no wums )  think of their chances in this one, and if they were to lose it would it be considered to be a massive set back in the county. I know they didn`t mind too much when they lost to Tipp in the Munster Championship a couple of years ago, but it was a different System then. I hear Dan has declared himself 100% fit for the game.

Now, that should get da deise excuses kicked off. Now , off to enjoy the Sunshine in beautiful County Limerick, come on the Banner.......till the semi anyhow.

Despite all the setbacks/injuries I still think Waterford should have too much for this Clare team. Eoin Murphy will be a huge loss and any manager with a bit of cop on would have called james murrey back at this stage. My guess at the first 15 would be:
1.Hennessy
2.B. Phelan
3.K. Moran
4.A. Kearny
5.J.Kennedy
6.K. McGrath
7.T Browne
8."Brick" Walsh
9.S. Molumphy
10.Dan
11.S. Predergast
12.D. Bennett
13.S. Casey
14.G. Hurney
15.J. Mullane
I think Waterford will shade it by about 3/4 points in the end.

Old man Browne will have his arse handed to him on a plate.
Can`t wait for it.
A team of losers if there ever was one.

Ill expect mike mack to have them primed to reach a munster this year, and build up some confidence. theres a lot of raw players on it alright but i dont see why they should fear anybody.

i would expect Waterford to be competitive for at least 20 mins, they have a fair bit of experience in that line up.

Hurney is supposed to be the new white hope in Waterford i believe...a huge man with suberb ball winning ability...from out around the Ballinacourty area just outside Dungarvan and probably better known as footballer. Plays his club hurling with Abbeyside and expected to make the first 15 for June 1.

are there any waterford injuries then? I think Mick Mc would be happy with a win. Hope the team can stand up to these guys though

Abbeyside  (hurling )  and Ballinacourty  (football )  are the one club. Ballinacourty is essentially the rural part of the parish with Abbeyside the urban part  (on the other side of the Colligan river from the town of Dungarvan ) . They used to be separate clubs with Courty looking after the football and the "Village"  (Abbeyside )  the hurling but they merged a long time ago. Most of the Ballinacourty senior team  (current county champions )  are actually from Abbeyside, including the Hurneys  (there are four of them in all on both senior teams, although John is currently in Australia ) .

Dan Shanahan`s injury means he will hardly be match fit for June 1, as he was a long way off the pace even at the end of the league. The same applies to Eoin Kelly, even if he shakes off his hand injury by then. A massive loss of firepower if both of these are missing, or playing below par. Still, if they are up to meeting the expected physical challenge from Clare, they should have enough quality to make it through.

4.A. Kearny..............13 T Griffin
5.J.Kennedy.............12 J Clancy
6.K. McGrath...........11 D Mcmahon
7.T Browne...............10 D Orourke
8."Brick" Walsh........9 B Oconnell
9.S. Molumphy........8 bugler or barrett
10.Dan......................7 D Clancy
11.S. Predergast........6 G Quinn

that will leave us with a couple of options off the bench with a bit of experience like lynch carmody and gilligan

Incidentally Eoin Kelly is not due to get the cast off his hand untill a week after the clare game.

Of the team above Molumphy is not likely to start since he has been away in Germany all year, and Shane Sullivan will probably start in his place.

molumphy is out of form at the moment i believe.

not the same player since brian lynch cleaned him out in the munster club championshi[p

too long a season for a new player last year i suspect

Tan, since last september Stephen Molumphy has been living and studying in Germany. He is doing an erasmus year as a cadet in the irish army/NUIG student, and as a result has not really hurled since the Waterford county final last year apart from a few weekend trips back for matches. I can assure you that Brian Lynch has nothing to so with his `form`

Molumphy was outstanding in the recent challenge match against Offaly in Bushy Park.

Jaysus TAN will you relax....losing the run of yourself there a little,

Molumpy was phenomenal last year for Waterford...aint goin to be a bad player over night....hasn`t been around much this year to suggest he is out of form....

I expect him to be a key player for a depleted Waterford side against Clare.

i notice a lot of comment on this game is based on how bad waterford might be rather then how good or not Clare are. Are Clare people banking on a below par waterford performance as the only chance of a win or is there any belief that Clare themselves might be good enough to take waterford with or without injuries/shanahan loss of form etc

mr molumphy obviously has a place close to your hearts :- )

as regards the below par performance well if 3 and 6 were a more solid proposition than they appear to be currently i would give us a great chance but the positions have a makeshift look to them. i think we will score enough but will we concede too much.
a team like waterford thrive on a regular supply of scores but can get frustrated and shoot from crazy spots if they are closed down. thats our route to success if both teams hurl well but i am not sure if we can close them out at the moment hence the specuation that a clare win will imply a great performance from us and something mediocre from waterford.

Well the season was long enough for Molumphy to lead his club to their first county championship for 20 years. The day against Tulla he was severely hampered by the rough treatment he got from the Tulla lads - eg. the stamp he got from Conor O`Halloran while he was lying on the ground at the start of the second half.
