Our national anthem, yet how many of us know the words. What is going wrong with the national language of Gaeilge?
There is a website dedicated to the long term survival of irish: it is www.plean2028.ie
Any ideas on keeping "gaeilge" alive. Please check it out.

In fairness postman has a point that you all missed over picking up on his ignorant mistake. All National schools should be thought thru Gaelige.

Get rid of Irish out of schools. What a waste of time.Teach them German or French at least they might get a job out of it.No point in being able to sing the national anthem in Irish and being on the dole.No good to any body unless in live in Conemara or some other Irish speaking place.

Haha, well said! I wasnt aware that it was a sin to have bad spelling. He does have a valid point, although why we have to listen to it before every bloody game I don`t know.

The likes of you are whats wrong with this country you fool. It should be drilled into kids at young age. I blame teachers with weak irish and no interest in teaching it. A bigger effort should be made by the teaching colleges and down into the primary schools.

The whole curiculum needs to be torn down and rebuilt from the ground up if Irish is to be saved. Its a waste of time money and resources continuing with matters as they are.

With the way Irish is curerntly being taught kids would be far better off learning German or the likes, because they might have some chance of remembering that, but they have no fooking chance of remembering any Irish they learn as it stands.

I apolgise for my mistake with Amhran na bhfiann  (no fadas on keyboard ) Lol.
That said the bad language and ignorance of "penquin, tworunnyeggs and dannyboy! They have a lot in common with the DUP up north in regards to this topic.
This state came into being partly to keep the Gaelic language alive.
Funny having anti Gaelic posters on a GAA website though. LOL

Well said postman. They are obviously what is referred to as "West Brits". Gaeilge is seen as a curse when in school. The way to teach it is thru conversation. Talk it first then learn to write just as we learn English. Any form for Irish people to be able to communicate among ourselves is good now and could be the saving of the country in years to come.

hold down Alt Gr when typing for a fada, if that doesn`t work press control and @ in quick succession before you type whatever vowel you want

agree 100%, i know for a fact that the standard of irish in freshly qualified teachers and teachers who are maybe 20 years in the job is terrible. if we`re serious about it, primary teachers should be assessed orally at least every few years

yeah i know what you mean but given the methods of investigation used by An Garda Síochána recently, it`s hardly surprising

A dying language that`s a complete was of time, ridiculous that its still complusory to leaving cert although I read recently that students are now getting doctors certs to get out of doing it.

Let those that want to waste there time at it do so, outside of school and at no cost to the state but it shoudn`t be imposed on others just to keep a few neanderthals happy
