Are they the greatest band ever? They have so many hit songs its crazy.

Have downloaded a few MP3`s of them performing live from limewire. Talk about inspiration when energy levels are sapping doing college work.

I have to see them live some day

Saw them in Slane and Croker, Slane way better, one of the best gigs I was ever at, McAteers goal probably helped it!!!

I wouldnt be a particularly big music head, and will listen to just about anything, but when one is doing a lot of assignments for college, the music can drive one on. I am fascinated with U2 these days. Remember they played U2`s Pride - In the name of Love over the loudspeakers at Lansdowne for the Australia game in the 1999 World Cup. It was unreal all the crow joined in.

I actually have a live Mp3 of Queen playing `God Save the Queen` at Wembley. I`d imagine the English would have loved it.

Incidentally I have a live Mp3 of some Glasgow guy singing `Sean Sabhat` It would put the hair up on the back of your neck

Great Song. 200 times better in a full stadium than the fields of Athenry at a Munster game.

And believe you me The fields of Athenry at a Munster game is something else.

I have seen U2 quite a few times now over here, Blighty and on the continent, but age is catching up so I will not be lining up to travel to any more. They never failed to impress even though I agree they are sometimes over-hyped. Was at Queen in Slane and that was fantastic. But one of the finest bands live are UB40. I think they were support to U2 when they played in Pairc Ui Caoimh all those years ago.

Paul sickens my hole though with his pontificating manner and his great ideas on how we should be spending taxpayers money. If he paid his fair share I would not have as much of a problem.

It`s probably a fella called Gary Óg. Used to be lead singer with a band called Éire Óg - hardline republican tunes.

Does a super version of Dylan`s "Masters of War".

Used to be a big U2 fan, but it`s the Kings of Leon who are rocking my boat these days...

Yes, this is a place wherre dullards who despite having almost 5,000 instantly forgetable  posts still have never managed to form an opinion of their own and would probably deride those who expressed a liking for U2.

First concert I went to was U2 in Croke Park. June 1985.

favourite U2 LPs

1 The Joshua Tree
2 The Unforgettable  Fire
3 Achtung Baby
4 Boy
5 Zooropa

favourite U2 songs

1 11 O`Clock Tick Tock
2 A Celebration
3 Lemon
4 A Sort Of Homecoming
5 Red Hill Mining Town

They are not the greatest band ever though.

First big concert I was ever at as well was U2 in PuiC in 1987 supported by , amongst others, The Dubliners. Saw them again in PUiC in 1993, Lansdowne Road in 1997 and Slane in 2001 the day of the Ireland/Holland game. Agreed, not the greatest band ever, but they always put on some show.

The reason I consider them so great is that a non music head like me can identify with an exceptionally high number of their songs.

1993 at the Park.

Wasnt that the year Bono gave out a load of free condoms and phoned Frank Murphy on stage to say what he was doing

Different times.........

memories oh the memories. The park in 1987 was my favourite concert ever possibly because me and 50 other classmates were heading off to england next day. The show was great but i have some memories that stayed in my head
1 )  The dubliners were woeful
2 )  UB40 were brill. i never liked them until that day.
3 )  the plastic bottle flinging before U2 came on stage.  ( all in very good spirit )

Queen were the best but U2 are one of a number who always put on a good show

U2 are apparently playing three nights in Croke Park in May 2009. I have to get there one of the nights.

Not being into the music scene and all that, why is there always such demand for Saturday night tickets as opposed to Friday and Sunday. Is it because Saturday is a convenient night, or is there some gig related reason i.e. the better show is the Saturday night.

Convenience I`d say SLR.

Friday will see a lot of people working although isn`t the Sunday the day before the bank holiday?
