What a player. Gave his all for Tipp. He will take replacing, though he struggled at times in `08.
Father Time was the only opponent he was unable to master.

Where did you hear that he was packing it in??? I would say he will give it another year, even though ne might not be first choice.

Potential replacements would be Paddy or Tom Stapleton, or maybe even Padraig Maher, The likes of Benny, Hugh Moloney and Diarmuid Fitz, if he stays fit long enough could do a job there..

Eamon told me himself that he wasnt giving it another go this year.
I myself, thought he would go for one more year.
I think Benny could do a good job there.

Well best of luck to him in his retirement, he was a great servant and a very consistent performer for the guts of 10 years.

There is loads of competition in the half back line next year. I would prefer to see someone new given the spot and see if they can hold on to it, like Shane Maher did this year. I would consider putting Benny in as a backward step, given the number of chances he has had to secure a place in the team. We have plenty of younger lads who deserve a chance.

He was a good one.

Always loved watching him play. Don`t think I ever say him beaten. Not even in 2008.

How old is he?

Not sure. He played in the 1997 All Ireland Final and has been present ever since. As reliable a wing back as you`ll find. Seemed a quiet fella who just got on with it.

He didnt make his debut untill 1999.

He played for a year or two with the Tipp intermediates before that.

He was under 21 captain the year they lost the final to KK in a replay, which was 06 i think..he was half back. He hasnt been on the senior panel ever as far as i know but might be looked at after this year. Theres no shortage of full backs in tipp at the moment though..

Thought he played better this year than he ever did and he was nearly matching Joe Canning on the speciality sideline cut points albeit a good bit closer to goal.

Indeed OTB, you were right. Did a bit of research:

Eamonn Corcoran

Eamonn who was born on October 17, 1977 plays with the JK Brackens club. He commenced his hurling career with Scoil Colmchille Primary School, winning county honours. From there, Eamonn progressed to Our Lady`s Secondary school in Templemore and won an All-Ireland B Championship. Eamonn joined Waterford IT in 1997 and won an All-Ireland freshers medal together with the All-Ireland Senior League. He won 2 Fitzgibbon Cup and 2 All-Ireland Senior League medals with Waterford IT in 1999 and 2000. He was the player of the tournament in both Fitzgibbon Cup tournaments playing at centre-back. He has won 3 National Hurling League medals in 1999, 2001 and 2008, 2 Munster Senior Hurling medals and an All-Ireland Senior Hurling medal in 2001. He has played at full-back, wing-back, centre-back and midfield for the Tipp Senior Hurling team. Eamonn is 6 feet in height and weighed 13 stone for the 2001 All-Ireland Final. In 2001, Eamonn won an All-Star award at wing-back. At club level, Eamon won a Mid Senior Football medal in 2002.

Championship debut - 1999 vs. Kerry
Number of Appearances - 43
Scored - 0-4

Shefflin is supposed to be a close friend of him aswell, seemingly they played together in WIT. Sheff seems to be the only guy who got the better of him......

Decent player though... and he`s only 31/32...... not exactly over the hill !

Lads what ever happened to a fella called Martin Maher. Saw him a few times for the Tipp under 21`s. Great defender. Good man to catch the ball.

Martin Maher was a great talent but injuries got the better of him and he wasn`t helped by the fact that Borris started playin him in the forwards.

Corcoran has been one of the most naturally talented hurlers of the last 15 years, just a pity he played on so many desperate Tipp teams. 1st day I saw him play in co colours was for the Intermediates in Cork against Waterford, same day they overturned us in the senior and brought an end to Len Gaynor. He was unreal that day and remember remarking that he had to get a call up the following year which he was given. Kept his place ever since.
Wouldn`t be true to say he never got taken to the cleaners. Like most he had bad day now and again. Remember him startin out of position at corner back on Joe Deane in 2005?? Munster Final in Páirc Uí Chaíomh. Deane skinned him.
As to who i`d like to see replace him I would go with the notion not to give Benny Dunne another chance, knockin round a long while and never nailed a place down. I think David Young should be given a call up next year but I don`t think his best position is at wing back, better in the corner. Same could be said for Paddy Stapleton. Yet to be convinced by Thomas Stapleton, still very young. Diarmuid Fitz is a shadow of his former self. From watchin him in this years club c`ship he actually looks sick and frail. Lost a pile of weight.
All that said I think if Hugh Maloney could stay fit he should get the nod. His best position. I know it won`t happen but there hasn`t been many better wing backs in the co. than our own gerry slattery over the last no. of years and he never got a call up. Every bit as good as Shane Maher and he had a superb year last year.

Ahoy there Kildangan would you be Puckane, Dromineer or Ballycommon side? Anyways, Hugh`s position is indeed left half back, could Brendan Maher make it there? I hope I`m wrong but I still think Shane will be cleaned next season, fair play to him for maximising his talent this season, but there`s something sluggish about him, just not economical enough for the very top level. James Barry too young maybe, or how about one of the Stapletons? Such talk makes one look forward to the start of the NHL.

Alright there Mick, i`m on the Puckane side of the parish. Take your point about Hugh but thought Shane Maher could move to the other side, good enough off both sides. At the start of the league campaign I voiced the same concerns as yourself about Shane Maher here. Thought he was a cleaning away from disasater but it never happened so he has to be given his dues for that. Paddy Stapleton will be close but i prefer him as a corner back, mind you i feel David Young is worth a run in the league in that position in place of Eamon Buckley.

I don`t agree with pushin young lads like Pa Bourke, Brendan Maher, Noel McGrath, Seamus Hennessy. They should be given a bit more time as they are already playin too many games between club and county. I don`t think Maher and McGrath were at their best at their respective levels last year as they looked exhausted.
