It is according to the Joe Duffy show, anyway. Is it that bad in small towns these days?

Random attacks on strangers by the locals - garda seem unable/unwilling to tackle it. Seems to be the standard garda reaction these days.

Tipp Town would not be high on the list of must sees for tourists. Seems like a bit of dump and obviously the locals match it perfectly.

True enough, Greg. The only outsiders visiting Tipp town are those poor people from East Limerick that head in to do a bit of shopping in the L&N. Then we get hammered by the local thugs when all we are doing is increasing their business and preventing it from becoming a ghost town.
And if the thugs don`t get you, their traffic warden will!

Probably the same gobs****s you see on C`ship days - you know the ones with the liking for blonde highlights in their hair and cans of Bulmers and shouting and roaring at everyone including each other.

A few vigilantes could sort that fairly quickly. Like Brannigans riot squad. Any thugs looking for trouble would suddenly find themselves in serious trouble.

It seems to be the same people responsible for a series of assaults. Why they haven`t been sorted out is a bit surprising.

I have the misfortune of passing thru Tipperary Town on a regular basis..
Its in the Top 5 Sh1tholes in Ireland. Full of Scobies in Honda Civics. Rough, dirty looking burds.

Only been through the place once. Had my car pelted with stones on the way through. I didn`t get a good impression of the place.

while i am a limerick man born and bred, i had the misfortune of going to secondary school there for 4 years before moving to a limerick school, i can say with a lot of experience to back it up that tipp town is the worst place that iv ever been to in ireland
it has nothing, no redeemable qualities in any way, shops are a disgrace and what goods they do provide they overprice to make up for lack or sales
you take your life in your hands if you go out for a pint and should you get into the royal you`d actualy have to be prepared to fight your way out.. when you want to go home!!

Tipperary is what is called a "garrison town"
It is probably the biggest hole in Ireland. Scangers, Scobies and nothing to redeem itself at all.
At least Limerick has the road to Shannon Airport

Is there a live link to the show?
I would always have been of the view that in Tipperary town, once you stay clear of trouble, you will generally avoid any trouble. There is a stigma attached to the town that doesnt reflect the good nature of 99% of the people there.

That place is hell on earth. I think inthenameajaysus summed it up better than i ever could. I`m glad it`s finally getting the negative media attention it has craved for so long.

It appears an American was attacked by members of one family who seem to have the sh15t scared out of the locals. There is a possibility that he will lose an eye and locals were too scared to help him. what in god`s name is going on?

Yeah - no doubt some local councillor or dignitary will be wheeled out to defend the wonderful community spirit and civic pride of "da vast majority" who are of course fine upstanding law abiding citizens.
Every town has the 1% or 2% of lowlife. For places like Tipp town, Cobh or Limerick that gain a "reputation" this % is much higher

Coming from outside Tipperary Town and having grown up in going out and socialising in Tipp Town I think it`s biggest problem is the lack of action by the gardai. There were xxs drinking openly in the market yard all day on St. Patrick`s day and there was no sign of Gardai trying to stop them. My friend and his father were assaulted outside their own pub by inbred scum who aren`t even from the town but from Cappa, although being xxs I`m sure they were born on the side of the road half way up the country somewhere.
My anger at these f**=========ers knows no bounds. There are a lot of decent, honest poeple in Tipp town who are scared of these scum and the Gardai sit on their arses above in the station doing s.f.a.
I don`t know what the problem is with Tipp but if you go half an hour over the road to Cashel you have one of the quietest towns in Munster which doesn`t seem to be affected to the same degree at all by this violence and intimidation.
I should add that I am talking of xxs in both the travelling and townie scum terminology.

I wouldn`t agree that it has no redeemable qualities. The sports facilities in the town are fantastic for a town of it`s size, Sean Treacy Park, Cooke Park, Clanwilliam, 3 tennis courts, Canon Hayes, the Excel etc, etc.

Two very good friends of mine live out, what I would call, the Kilmallock road. I used to have a lot of work in the midlands and came home through that place every Friday. I stopped over one Friday night and went out for a few scoops, I could not get over the place. Rough? Jesus wept, it was atrocious. Never again. We did meet some grand lads in my friends circle but there were some right scobes about the place.
