Only in Limerick...
I think Limerick hurling in general is best summed up by the fact that iirc, no Limerick team has broken from a pre-match parade since 1996, just in case that might influence the result against them...

I presume Henry Martin has done some market research, but are people down Limerick way really so masochistic that there is a demand for this kind of self-flagellation?

I imagine this book will be expertly written with fascinating insights. But Jesus Henry, what are you doing to us man!?! It`s hard enough going through the hope, the excitement and the crushing despair, then trying to block it out without going through it again in print. It`s going to be a tough read.

Perhaps it should be subtitled "The Continuing Inside Story of Limerick Hurling`

While people are exhorting the management team to try and create a positive mood in the camp ahead of the Wexford game, is this really a good time for this?

Any Limerick team that is any way negatively affected by the release of this book is not one to get worked up about in the first place. If anything, it should spur them on, 2001 style. It`s not the primary problem with Limerick hurling, but I still perceive a sort of "doomed" attitude about it. Beat Wexford and it`ll go some way shifting focus away from it. Lose like Offaly last year and Clare in 2006 and undoubtedly the psychological aspect of this team will be called into question again.

Did he seek the permission of the County Board prior to writing this book? At least three of them know nothing about it. Was he approached to compile it or was it his own idea? Is the "Author" and I use that word in inverted commas because he is a failed Limerick Leader "journalist", entitled to write this book?
I could name several Limerick writers who are far superior to him and should have been considered for this. They have served their time with honour and dignity.
John Redington, Matt O`Callaghan, Martin Kiely, Jerome O`Connell, Colm Kinsella, Mal Keaveney, John O`Shaughnessey, Cormac Liddy and Harry Greensmyth to name just a few.

any man or woman is " entitled" to write a book about whatever he or she wants. it`s something to do with freedom of expression or some malarkey

They have indeed served their time. And you`re right, you`re so right. How dare he speak out of turn when he hasn`t served his time.
How could anyone who loves cherishes and adores Limerick hurling to the extent that the pain of losing makes them weep inside dare put pen to paper unless they`ve served their time whistling their way through Chorus minor matches in front of a screen in some studio in the ar$e end of nowhere 10 days after the actual match took place describing nonsense stats about when they won 2 matches in a row back in the sixties while completely ignoring the action.
Or how could he possibly give his opinion - after attending every hurling and football league match giving rise to the hopes and dreams that this year`s Div 3 sojourn is but a blip - unless he`s spent 15 years writing cliched and ill-informed film reviews for a sub-standard local rag. FFS.
Henry, your opinions on here are worth a million words by those jokers listed above. Best of luck to your book, it deserves to be a bestseller - it`s obviously written from the heart and with a wealth of knowledge and experience behind it - but i hope to God it isn`t. I couldn`t take the column inches devoted to it redredging every memory that i`ve been trying to banish for years.

Based on recent "columns" published here I wouldn`t waste my money. The guy has an inflated sense of his writing ability not to mention other failings. A book for Limerick navel-gazers only.

I can only imagine what a compelling read it will be. The interviews will be very very enlightening! However rehashing the suffering we`ve endured and continue to endure will not be enjoyable.
Just as we travel to LK Championship matches in droves we will more than likely buy this book similarly.

forget this waste of money malarkey. we have read enough from him both on the limerick leader and here to know that it will be worth reading. forget this heartbreak nonsense. this book is about controversy. i can only imagine what tom ryan alone has to say. i cant wait. what have the county board got to do with it.
only one of the writers above would write a book like this and thats john reddington. shaughnessy greensmith and liddy are old school and would not bother. o connell and kinsella would be only breaking county board links for the leader that they need for their job. kiely and o callaghan wouldnt be capable. i dont think any of them would write it like slr because he will put everything on the table for the readers. the rest of them would be only trying to hide things from the public.
will it be in easons slr? it will sell well. i have relations in cork that are asking about it already.
wheres the launch and when is it on? i hope that you dont have the clown liam lenihan talking. he wrecked the tom ryan and len dineen debate a few weeks ago and put all the listeners to sleep.

Anybody else find it amusing that there is a Clare man lurking in the background of the cover picture!

Everyone I met this weekend is talking about getting it. Its like waiting for the first round of the championship. Henry Martin better not disappoint us like Limerick.
Gluetus maximus is talking a load of rubbish about him having notions. The only writer around here that ever had notions is from kilkenny and jockeyed a girl from golden

I am looking forward to reading it. Anyone attempting to write the story of Limerick hurling since 1970 is inevitably going to have to cover the lows and disappointments we have had over the period. Better to he honest than to plamas about things. I am particularly interested in the years 1980-85 when we were close to winning AIs but could not. Limerick Hurling does not belong exclusively to the County Board and it`s placemen. Good look to SLR with the book, hope it is the first of many.
