People seem to have forgotten there is a match on with all the talk about tickets.
Same clare team named as last day....if we can feed the full forward line we should do it.
Dont know much about Waterford to be honest...

like myself don`t know much about waterford but will be sure that they will be up for the game, they have a few senior panelists so should be strong. Think Clare need to get off to a good start and the backs need to tighten up and have less mistakes then they had against Limerick because Waterford might not be as forgiving . Hope its a good game and clare bring back the honours

Know nothing of Waterford so impossible for me and probably almost all other Clare supporters to make a prediciton. Dan`s brother looked like he could be v dangerous at u21 level. Wonder would our Waterford brethern tell us a bit about the field, is it tight or not.

dont know much of the clare team but waterford got out of jail in a few positions v tipp. i think it was 1 of those games where everything ran right for them if it hadnt been we could have been in trouble. im not convinced with daniels at centre back. hopefully o hare doesnt start midfield again. does anybody know wht dean twomey isnt on the panel? having been on it the last 2 years.

We will have to tighten up our back line from the start. We looked shaky at the back last day and it took 20 minutes before the backs found their rhythm. I don`t think the waterford forwards will be as forgiving as limerick were. Our full forward line will be the key. If we get enough fast ball in to them we should win. I expect darach honan to cause problems for waterford with his height. Nicky o connell will be a key link up man.He sent in some great ball to the forwards last day out. If we go at it right from the start we should collect a well deserved first title. C`MON THE BANNER.

in fairness to daniels, in the last 20 minutes against tipp he was immense. it cant be dismissed as everything running right for him. every ball that came near him he won. if say padraig maher had put in a last 20 minutes like that we would have heard much more about it.
as for the match, i remember thinking we had a decent chance against cork in the final two years ago. we had current seniors foley and moran playing. also maher and casey who will start again tomorrow night. cork hammered the sh1t out of us, very depressing. so i won`t get my hopes up. i`m always worried that our home crowd can unnerve waterford under-age teams. last year`s minors being a classic case. in fairness that didnt happen in this year`s under 21 semi final.
possibly the most important battle will be between our full back line of maher-fives-connors and the clare full forward line of honan-morey-ryan. hopefully our half back line will sit back and give them some protection when it is needed. also, we have a great goalie in power who might be called on to take a penalty or close-in free at some stage.
midfield struggled early on against tipp, hopefully this has been corrected. shane walsh should start this time. in the forwards i hope casey goes better than he did in the final 2 years ago. maurice shanahan`s free-taking will be crucial, sure he knows where the posts are in fraher field anyway. hopefully ryan from tallow will treat us to another belter of a goal like his first one against tipp.
anyway it has the potential to be a thrilling high-scoring match. i`ll stick my neck out and say waterford by 3. UP THE DEISE.

For the benefit of Clare supporters. The Waterford goalkeeper Adrian Power is the senior sub goalie and many people believe he should be on the first team due to his sometimes unbelievable shot stopping abilities and his excellent puckouts, although he is also inclined to do crazy things. All three full backs are on the senior panel with Noel Connors in the first team. Full back Shane Fives was excellent against Tipperary while the other corner back Jerome Maher was possibly even better. This line`s performance was a key factor in the defeat of Tipp.
The half back line is the same as that which won De La Salle their first All-Ireland colleges title in 2007. Philip Mahony is also on the minor team and is the best hurler of the three. Stephen Daniels had a shaky enough first half against Tipp but was super in the second half: he is not physically big and relies on hurling and positioning. I though the other wing back David O`Sullivan was weak enough against Tipp.
The two big Abbeyside men who started against Tipp were both very poor, but only one of them - Seán O`Hare - was taken off, and his replacement Shane Walsh probably played the key role in turning the game Waterford`s way. I think the occasion got to O`Hare who is a better hurler than he looked that night, but I can`t for the life of me say what John Gorman is doing on the team (well, I do have an opinion but can`t express it here ) .
All six Waterford forwards are on the senior panel. Paul Murray is usually a defender but put in a great hour against Tipp and landed three points. Thomas Connors, brother of Noel, had a whale of a second half - strong and aggressive and can take a score. Maurice Shanahan is unreal - a much better hurler than Dan, with a bit of his father`s devil in him, and an excellent freetaker. Shane Casey has great pace and skill and also very good vision - did really well both a full forward and on the wing against Tipp. Thomas Ryan is small in stature but has great pace and skill and an eye for a goal (got two against Tipp ) . Brian O`Sullivan is very skillful but was the least impressive of the forwards against Tipp, but I think from his club form that he is capable of better.
Waterford played with a great combination of skill, commitment and discipline against Tipp and if they repeat that they will be hard to beat. Also 3-21 was a big score to get in a 60-minute match against a team with Tipp`s credentials.
Dungarvan is a big pitch and would always have been regarded as one of the best hurling pitches in Ireland. However, whatever they did with the drainage when they built the stand in the early 1990s it was never the same afterwards. They are after having a couple of gos at fixing the problem and I must say that for the semi-final it looked in the best shape I have seen it in 20 years.
Most people travelling to this game from Clare will probably come through Tipperary, Cahir and Clonmel. There are three roundabouts in a row approaching Clonmel from the Cahir side and I don` think any one of them as a signpost for Dungarvan. The best advice is to take the exit at around one/two o`clock (looking at the roundabout facing you as a clock ) i.e. the one after the exit for Waterford. This should bring you up to traffic lights (petrol station on the left hand side ) where you turn right (over the river Suir ) for Dungarvan, turn right at the roundabout at the far side of the river (no advance sign for Dungarvan here either ) and then turn left about half a mile further on. Very picturesque road between the Comeragh and Knockmealdown mountains but rather twisty in places.
Just west of Dungarvan the road meets up with the N72 from Killarney/Lismore (at the Master McGrath monument ) and just beyond this junction there is another junction with the road to Dungarvan off to the right and the road to Waterford to the left. You can approach Fraher Field by either road. Taking the Waterford road, take the next right turn and this brings you to the ground along the river Colligan. I believe there is parking at the Cattle Mart just before the ground. This might be the best bet for people coming late.
If you take the road into Dungarvan, turn left at the first roundabout (petrol station on the right ) and the ground is to the left of the second next roundabout you meet. However, the traffic situation in this area will be dire. If coming early, go straight on at the first roundabout which brings you into the town square - there are several car parks in the vicinity of the square, which is about ten minutes walk from the ground. Recommended pubs include the Local, the Lady Belle and Paddy Foleys (all in one corner of the Square ) and the Moorings and the Anchor on the Quay. The Park Hotel is next to the ground and is also a great meeting place for games.
Welcome to the Déise and enjoy everything about your visit except the match result!

Thanks for that ,excellent stuff. Apart from the result I wish ye well. Knew most of the Waterford line up but the blanks you filled in dont reassure me at all, Clare will have to be at their best.
I love the Local by the way and the roundabouts in Clonmel are confusing, Is there a Melody`s pub on the route? ... I think the Mrs loved it...

Great report giveitfong. We`re definately up against it.
We too though have great lads and in the Clonlara lads, we have a bunch that won the Intermediate and Senior Club titles in Clare in back to back years as well as a Munster Intermediate Title and the Clare under 21 title. We have our own match winners which makes this game very attractive. I`ve come home for England to be at it.
Had a look at a few clips from matches in Dungarvan - the pitch is wide and I think that should suite our lads.
Can`t wait, hoping to get down for 5 and have a few pints before the game.

Looking forward to this now although i will have to make do with TG4.
heart warming to see the Clare fellas getting wound up and excited about a hurling match again, its great to see.
A nice distraction for Waterford also, nice little thing to take the mind of the AI semi coming up next week.

The first and 3rd roundabouts only have exits at 11 o`clock and 1 o`clock and you want the 1 o`clock in both cases, the middle one is basically the entrance to a shopping mall, just go straight on.
Melody`s is one of the 2 pubs in Ballymacarbery, about half way between Clonmel and Dungarvan. Can`t remember what the other one is called but it`s right next door, has a pool table with plenty of room round it, a great jukebox and (only time I was there ) eye candy behind the bar!

Bigball training off to accomodate coverage. Im sure there are clubs similarily cancelling around the county.
Deise backs will put a big effort into containing Clare`s forwards so a lot will depend on how Clare`s backline does at the other end.
Lets hope the weather holds up and we get a good riveting game, Last years final was one of the best matches on the box all year.

From a Clare point of view, while I think we were wholly flattered by our win over Limerick, if our forwards click at all we should just about make it over the line. The Waterfod fullback line is quite strong ( esp Connors who on what ive seen will def be a future star ) so I think our half forward line will be key, esp Conlon who could really turn it on.
Midfield I would expect to be 50:50.
Defensively Ive fairly big reservations about the spine, Duggan and Glynn who didnt inspire alot of confidence at times against Limerick. Shanahan and Casey are their two most talented hurlers. (Shanahan looks to have everything Dan has plus a snapper strike and more pace )
Overall, for hurling a great final, when you consider it being TIpps virtual Dream Team, and my opinion Kilkenny have def been stronger and Galway only really have Canning so victor has a real chance of going all the way.

Well whoever wins atleast its not Cork or Tipp.
Clare are the real reigning Munster champions in my eyes anyway.

The posts on the various threads about the match tonight have been remarkably mellow. A good clean match tonight and I think we can say with some certainty that the problems between the two counties which flowed from the debacle in 1998 will have been forgotten.
Although if Clare win, Colin Lynch is a bollix
