I was going to Paris Beauvais on the Saturday 3rd of October from Shannon, when my fellow passengers and I experienced a horrific ordeal when the plane came into land. Everything was going perfectly on the approach to land and as soon as the plane touched the ground the pilot went full on the power and took off again causing panic and fear in the cabin. We went off into the air again and it was 5 minutes before the pilot even bothered to explain what happened. Apparently a cross wind caught the plane just on landing so he had to take off again. There was not even an apology. Loads of people were hysterical and crying as they did not know what was happening. It is only a matter of time before there is a serious crash with these chancers.

Ryanair don`t control the wind so it`s not their fault. I know some people consider Michael O`Leary to be some sort of God but controlling the wind might be pushing it.

A bit OTT.Apart from everything else do they not have a very good safety record? You don`t have to use them. What about this for a mad idea?Try another airline.

It was horrific, everyone thought the landing gear was gone or something, and no one explained what happened as we were flying around aimlessly for a few minutes, everyone thought we would have to crash land or something and all be killed.

I think you are overstating the seriousness of what happened here. I was on a Ryanair flight from Dublin to London Stansted four weeks ago and the same thing happened, due to a plane being slow to leave the runway. We had to circle around before landing ten mins later. The pilot explained what was wrong just as we were about to attempt landing for the second time. I can only guess the reasons the pilot didn`t come on to speak to the passengers were a )  he was too busy trying to fly the plane b )  he was talking to air traffic control

The pilot should have apologised for what ?
Not landing when he thought it might be unsafe to do so ??

The guy I was sitting beside swears he saw something fall off one of the wings. There must be a big cover up. I`m sorry I did not contact a newspaper straight away. I was shaking for an hour after it.

your title is correct in that im sure it was a scary incident but not a horrific ordeal, maybe landing in the hudson might be that

Would you ever get over yourself. The only conceivable gripe I can see that you might have is that you had to wait five minutes for an explanation. Quite why you think you deserve an apology is anyone`s guess I suppose if you`d been on that plane that a pilot managed to crash land into the Hudson river earlier this year, saving 100s or possibly 1000s of lives in the process, you`d have been whining about getting your shoes wet.

Aimlessly??
I doubt it.

So you guys are trying to tell me, flying around in the air for five minutes and expecting to crash into the runway and die horrifically is not an awful prospect, yeah, some real keyboard warriors on here Ok. There was people crying and people with rosary beads out praying FFS. I suppose it was all a big laugh.

That`s not uncommon during landings actually. It`s happened twice to me. Neither time with Ryanair. Once was with BA flying into Sydney and once with Lufthansa flying into Chicago.

I wouldnt be too quick to play down what happened. The slightest little rattle on a plane has me worried so an aborted landing would scare the sh1te out of me

Well the poster`s probably making it up so it`s hard to feel any sort of sympathy.

Ah c`mon Louie...it might have been a bit disconcerting but surely when the pilot got finished trying to organise the freakin` plane on an aborted landing due to a cross wind and all that entails with ATC. He then got on the tannoy to his passengers and explained the situation. He then landed the bloody thing at the 2nd attempt.

What is the problem...as mentioned previously Ryanair, Aer Lingus, BA or anyone else cannot control cross-winds on a runway.

This is a dust yourself down and carry on with life moment...not try to make a big "woe is me" deal out of it.

No but the mass hysteria you experienced was totally unjustified. The guy who saw something falling off the wing is a spoofer.

I would imagine come the second time round of landing if they thought there was a problem they would have asked you to assume crash positions.

While i have no doubt the experience would be unsettling, I would imagine the pilots first reaction would be to ensure he got the plane back up and in position for the 2nd landing and also to swiftly arrange with air traffic control for a rearranged slot for landing before he could calm your frayed nerves.

I would imagine he was more concerned with Michaels anger for the plane being late than your near death experience.

Flying around in the air for five minutes? In a plane? You must have been terrified!!! In your original post, which you went to the trouble of marking with an angry-face icon, you were holding Ryanair responsible for what happened and said: "It is only a matter of time before there is a serious crash with these chancers". You may well have been scared, but you can`t hold Ryaniar accounable for that.

Actually that stupid song came on when it landed the second time claiming to have landed on time. I have no doubt they manipulate the flight times so they can always claim to land on time. Turning planes around in 20 minutes is going to lead to a terrible disaster some day.

We were flying around with no explanation as to what happened. Everyone thought the landing gear was gone and that we were going to crash into the runway or a field and explode.

That much is true. In all the rush they could forget to reload the drinks trolley.

You`re wrong, Ryanair have an exemplary safety record and there no reason that should not be expected to continue. They carry something like 68m people each year and never had a major accident. Nuff said.
