FFS..i had to laugh..this hack was saying GL had brought disgrace on the policital process and all those who worked in and around it...what a joke...problem with all those who operate in and around leinster house is they instiutionalised and have no concept of peoples disallusionment with the process.

I thought he was dead right. Dont see what relevance him running for FF before has on a discussion about George lee. I think he even described Richard Bruton as sh!t hot so if you are implying he was biased on the frontline last night you are wide of the mark my friend.
As for George Lee....He was naive in the extreme. When are Fine Gael going to realise that Kenny is incompetant and appoint Bruton as leader

He seemed to bend over backwards last night to show his impartiality, saying that FG have not been hit by this at all and none of it reflects badly on them, only on George Lee.

I think anyone who comes out with bald statements such as "politicians are all the same" or "politicians have lost touch with the people" are quite immature.
Politicians aren`t out of touch. If they were, they wouldn`t get elected. You`d swear listening to some people that the government was foisted upon us by the IMF or some other third party. All of the members of the government are elected representatives. Anybody has the right to boot them out at election time. Brian Cowan and Willie O Dea are so popular in their respective constituencies that they consistently break records for the amount of first preference votes.
Noel Whelan, the political analyst that the op was referring to, was clearly frustrated at the mindless commentary from various people suggesting that Seoirse O Laoigh was being "institutionalised" and had to get out because he was going mad blah blah blah. Some of the comments surrounding this topic make me despair at the stupidity/naivety of the Irish electorate.
Parties vote en masse in order to maximise their support and damage the opposition parties. Big deal. It happens in every other parliamentary democracy. It doesn`t mean that there is a deficit of thought or policy just because parties stick together.
The wheels of reform turn slowly and its the way it should be.

He had a point, but it`s a bit rich coming from a ZanuFF hack. Their love of brown envelopes has done far more damage than anything George Lee has done.

You explained the second part quite well, and id be inclined to agree with you.If they had lost touch they would not be elected.. But can you try to explain how all politicians are not the same?

No what im referring to is this whole idea that politics is some noble profession. I got that drift from his comments last night. Also he mentioned that TDs are putting in 14 hour days bla bla and pat pulled him up brillantly with his "space programme - slurry spreader" arugument. Class!

But sure Noel is instiutionalised like them all??? he was more interested in protecting the image of "irish Politics" than talking about why George left. Too many days hanging around leinster house, not enough out working.

George was never going to win, he was an outsider. He wasnt the 4th generation of his family to be elected, he wasnt hanging around the dail bar. Thats the problem. The tight little groups in leinster house and Irish Politics dont want new faces or radical change. That want the same auld same auld while we keep footing the bill. Noel was acting like a lobbyist last night for it rather than a " policitical analsyst " whatever they do 9-5 monday to friday???

Ok course he was being biased, just in a back-handed way. Do you really think his praising of Richard Bruton was genuine? I don`t think GL is the only naive person here an fear glas. His praise of Bruton was a clear attempt to de-stabilse the FG party and stoke up a leadership battle thus taking the spot-light off FF`s continuing stumble through governance of the country.

no they are not all corrupt. that kind of thinking simply absolves the genuinely corrupt fcukers from any kind of responsibility

if you think so.. i wouldnt leave one of them in a room with my Jameson bottle full of change though, if thats a chance you are willing to take with one then more power to you.
It just doesnt seem to me that any of the current shower of elected reps are in it for anything else than the payslip at the end of the month. Certainly not the civic goodwill/want to do good for the country that they are supposed to have.

Maybe they all had it in for George because of his background? Maybe a Christian Brother`s lad without a blueshirt pedigree had no chance surrounded by Clongowes/Belevedere lads and/or large farmers.
Maybe George`s natural home was ZanuFF

That`s Noel Whelan for you. Always good at creating a convincing argument.
I have vivid memories of him being a great debater in our secondary school during the mid 1980s.
