Kieren Fallon will have only his second ever ride in next month`s Weatherbys Champion Bumper on the Noel Glynn-trained Old McDonald.
The six-times champion jockey rode Jonjo O`Neill`s Refinement to finish fourth behind Missed That at the Cheltenham Festival in 2005 and will return to Prestbury Park on March 17.
Old McDonald opened his account at the third attempt at Ludlow in December and Glynn is delighted to have secured Fallon`s services.
"We are from the same parish in County Clare and Kieren was a neighbour of mine, so I decided to get him booked and I couldn`t have got much better," said Glynn.
"This is a good horse and he won nicely at Ludlow last time.
"The time before he was second to Tavern Times at Fairyhouse and was maybe a bit unlucky.
"Tavern Times is one of the favourites for the Champion Bumper and I`d like to think we`ll be wherever he is.
"Whether it will be just in front of him or just behind him I don`t know, hopefully in front.
"I have 14 horses riding out at the moment and my only Cheltenham runner I`ve ever had was a horse that ran in the Triumph Hurdle years ago.
"This year I`ll hopefully have Old McDonald and Becauseicouldntsee, who will hopefully run in the four-miler (National Hunt Chase ) on the same day.
"Hopefully it will be great day and as an owner and a trainer, Cheltenham is what you dream about."
I thought he promised to stay away from unsavoury gangster types???

Nice coup to get Fallon to ride. That horse was second to Tavern Times in a Fairyhouse bumper and then went to Ludlow and won easily under Barry Geraghty.
There will be some champagne bought if he happens to win it. Anyone that knows Noel would confirm this! And as for the sing song.....

Although I cursed him that day because he cost me money I still went to the parade ring hoping Williamson would have got the stewards enquiry.
2002 bumper for anyone that doesn`t remember.

Pat Smullen finished 3rd on Rite Of Passage last year. Would be great to watch if Fallon & Smullen were to fight out a close finish.

flat jockey is a negative for me in the bumper, not as strong as nh jockeys in a finish
Tip : tavern times each way in the bumper 14/1, Davy Russell will ride.

Its amazing the high number of racing punters who have a skewed vision of what strength in the saddle really is.
To most, the faster you shake the reins and the harder you whip the horse, the stronger you are. Not at all in my opinion! Horses are not machines, its not like riding a virtual horse in that the more animated you get, the greater the response!
The key to being strong in a finish is getting the horse underneath to respond reciprocally to the jockey`s urgings. Any clown can whip a horse and shake reins but its the manner in which this is done that makes a jockey superior to others. All horses are different and every one of them will respond differently. Harchibald being a prime example. Kieren Fallon, was certainly in the early part of the last decade, the "strongest" jockey riding anywhere in the UK and Ireland, flat or jumps. I haven`t seen that much of him since his return to compare him to then. Same comments apply to Johnny Murtagh in 2008.
But the fact that Fallon is riding in the Bumper is by no means a negative just because he can`t benchpress as much as the average jump jockey. He is ten times the horseman of many will ride in that race. Furthermore, the Bumper can be a very rough race and having a true horseman, such as Fallon, on the back of any horse is a big advantage.

It`s rarely a driving finish to the Cheltenham Bumper (only about 4 of the last 15 under a length margin I`d say )
Only Flat Jockey to win was Jamie Spencer by a nk (against Williamson, Swan and Timmy )
I`d rather have Fallon guiding the animal around the course and in a finish than say Magnier or Barry C.

The negative for Fallon here is this. does he know how to ride around Cheltenham? Of course he can finish, cajole, manoeuver into the gaps, get up a hill - but does he know when to let the horse off the bridle? Does he know where to take the horse on the circuit? I expect that he will be trailing the leaders in the slipstream to see what they do - its a good tactic for a flat jockey racing on a jumps course.
