Well lads the footballers on saturday night then the hurlers Sunday.
Two very different storys both both camps.The footballers going well with 3 wins out of 3 and a manager in his 5th year.And looking like they can with Munster.
Then we have the hurlers who have lost 2 out of 2.The best players wont play.We dont even no who is going to managed the team Sunday and at the moment not looking like we can stay in D 1.
It would have be good to see this as a double H

I hear the Limerick senior team played the U21 team in Martinstown on Saturday. Was anyone at it? Anyone stand out? I heard James O`Brien played.

Who cares as ye will still be going on about Justin Mccarthy and the strike after ye lose again. Stop going to the matches and then he will go i tell ye and get over yourselves.

Togo you must have nothing better to be doing. Go back to whatever hole your crawled out of.
Best of luck to the lads on Sunday and I hope we can have a proper discussion on the match in this thread rather than fools like Togo coming on and mouthing off and contributing nothing of value.

The pedant in me says that this should be Waterford v Limerick as it´s on in Fraher Field!
safe trip to the Limerick lads heading down ... tis a s**e road on a bad day!

Looking forward to the game. Now having the ``Oldies`` back, it should be interesting to see who Davy select s. Ive been hearing that Eoin Kelly is playing center back, anyone else hear the same?

Now that the manager situation is fully settled we can cast our thoughts towards sundays game with Waterford.Will there be a change at full back or will young Kenny get the nod again.I´m expecting these lads to surprise a few more people on Sunday.

Can I ask you absent what surprise exactly does this team have in store for us in your opinion? And what surprises have they sprung on us up to now?
To my mind, they have
(a ) Played with a very admirable degree of heart.
(b ) Shown that they as a group will find it difficult to win against most Div. 2 teams they are likely to meet next year
and
(c ) Have been beaten in two games of Div. 1 by understrength teams from Galway and Cork that have won pulling away.
Fair play to them. I am not criticizing them but I don`t see a great element of surprise in any of that. I wonder what has surprised you in their performances and, based on that, what further surprises you feel are in store.
I`m not stirring it - just trying to see where you are coming from in the hope that if people of different opinions on the present situation can come to an understanding of the others` position (even if they don`t agree with it ) then some common ground might be found to heal the divisions that seem to be polarizing.

I`ll decide the appropriate forum for my posts, ProjectX, thanks very much. I was responding to absents` post on this thread.
Maybe you`d like to respond to my question in absents` temporary absence. Have you been surprised? Do you expect more surprises? What are/were they?
Please don`t respond with an allegation that I am really another poster under a different user name. Just give an honest answer to the question I raised if you can. Grma.

in fairness togo is right.lads topic after topic on limerick,same stuff been said on all of them.vote with yer feet.if ye go to the games get behind yer team,forget about last year and build for the future

I`ll say one thing for Limerick, you have savage support. Was at the `95 Munster final where you outnumbered the Clare fans 4 or 5 to 1. Would love to see you lads back in the big time.
From a completely neutral perspective on the whole debacle, which it is, I believe that even if McCarthy goes then the next manager coming in shouldn`t welcome the `09 players back with open arms. He should keep with the `10 panel and trickle feed the old players in on his terms.
Limerick will win nothing now or in the next 5 years with the players of the `09 team. If they are all brought back in then you won`t win anything for 30 years, as the bitterness and dillusional notions of grandeur will remain.
Irrespective of the outcome of the fiasco, you will have a completely new panel in 10 - 15 years time. Now is the time to plan for those teams.

You are spot on, but it doesnt look likely any time soon that players from 09 will be trickling back onto the panel while justin is in charge. The only way this will be end so that we can concentrate solely on the hurling is for one side to stand down be it ANOTHER statement from the hurlers saying they wont be back this year or for justin to resign. Neither of which looks likely to happen

Go raibh maith agat, GalwayDownUnder. I tend to agree with a lot of what you have said. At the end of the day, the 2009 squad are certainly not world beaters and we have a perennial problem with trying to find scoring leaders in the forwards in particular. Our 2007 forwards had leaders in Ollie Moran and Shocks (with others chipping in but unlikely to turn a game on it`s head when needed - a couple of timely subs excepted ) . Because time marches on and because of other tragic circumstances, we were in a position in 2009 that we were still looking for talented leadership up front. Returning the `09 panel en masse won`t change that and sending young players out to play in games where the opposition is in second or third gear without experienced men beside them to help them on in their development isn`t fair to them and is creating further problems down the line for us.
With the 09 panel we are struggling to be a top 6/8 team. With the 10 panel of brave young lads we are struggling to be a top 12 team. With the limited talent at our disposal and a dearth of underage success, we need the best of both panels and everybody pulling together under a competent and trustworthy management team and county board - with everybody, including fanatic supporters, taking a reality pill about where we actually stand in the scheme of things. We still may not win an All-Ireland or even a Munster Championship or League but we might be competitive enough to keep young lads coming to watch matches with hope and determination that things are going to get better. Without that we are going to find it very difficult to maintain the interest of young lads in hurling as there is a vast array of distractions out there for them and parents that become aware of the political tom foolery that is choking the county are never going to encourage those young lads to pick up a camán.

I agree with you cold facts can seem very negative put there are positives.
I`m delighted that a team representing Limerick is taking to the field and doing their best and a few diamonds have been unearthed and maybe there are more to follow.It appears that 7 or 8 of them are doing very well and learning all the time,it`s a steep curve.Maybe a few more will show up well on sunday,I feel very optimistic that Limerick will have a good team in about 3 yrs time.Lots of negative comments re 20 point defeats were made before the League started .They did very well against a Galway side that were way more match fit than them as they had just won the Walsh cup.Progress is all I`m after,it will be slow but it WILL happen.Cussen undid them against Cork and he will be a handful for any defence.You should take a read of "flintstones" Man in the Arena post,that`s more like what I want from the team.

Have Waterford gotten any of their big names back for this encounter, or is Davy still using his development squad, if he is, it could be a close enough encounter on Sunday, seeing as Brick Walsh is now unavailable also.

I disagree Galwaydownunder,I was at the 95 Munster final and thought the support was divided fifty fifty.Limerick do have great support and I feel sad for them because of whats going on with their hurlers.I have always regarded Limerick as a top hurling county and hope this mess is resolved soon for all concerned.

There are very few positives.
I cannot pick one guy who I would say will definitely cut it at championship level.
Most of them are not good club hurlers.
They are being used as pawns by the county board and the management.
If the 09 players came back, they would be drop ped like a hot potatoe.
We will not have a good team in 10 years never mind 3 with the way the county board handles an elite team.
There are a few players coing through from minor, but the most we will get is 3 or 4.
Talent is thin on the ground in Limerick, and we need our best players on the field, properly managed, and backed up by a professional county board set.
If this is achieved as a result of the current mess, then we will have made more progress than we have made in the last 20 years.
Brian O Sullivan was roasted by Seamus Hickey in the Fitz Cup, and Graemme Mulcahy was taken off in the same game.
Some people would seriously want to take off the rose tinted glasses in relation to the current panel.
All this talk of improvement is like something you would hear from an U-12 team.
When the ground gets hard, all of these players will be destroyed.
I again ask the question does anyone go to club games in Limerick ?
If a player can`t cut it on a regular basis at club level, then what hope does he have at the elite level ?
