I for one am a far bigger fan of this site and it`s multifarious contributors, rather than the slow cumbersome bigger rival, any other opinions?

This is going to end up resembling one of those boring threads where people show their pathetic insecurities by being unable to extol the virtues of the GAA without criticising soccer or rugby. AFR has it`s merits and faults. Boards has its merits and faults. Can we not not just leave it that?

Don`t like Boards. Boards is schite.
Is that sufficient?
Oh & AFR (or to be respectful Anfearrua.com ) is the best thing since sliced bread.
ALthough I`d like to what was the best thing BEFORE sliced bread?

A pan of bread was!
AFR is the best forum I have come across by some distance as there asctually is mostly good debate on it as opposed to most forum which tend to turn into adolescent swearing matches. I think the curse blocker on the site is a very good feature. I have never gone onto Boards.ie so can`t really compare it to that, but it certainly beats the likes of planet rugby, up the deise, KK cats and football 365 etc.
The only thing that lets the site down is its usability. It would be better if you log in before writing your post so you don`t get any annoying invalid log in notice after writing a big post. I would also like to see an attach a photo feature which a lot of sites have.
AFR invariably gets really sh1t from around October to January but that is unavoidable given the nature of the site. All around, its a top notch forum.

I probably visit boards.ie more. The way they have it sectioned off and are diligent in keeping it that way works better for me. The odd hobby I have are very well catered for in there with some posters having some serious knowledge and very little to no wummers
I dislike AFR`s insistance on branding this as a gaa forum, its a hotch potch of everything really but some of the topics and posts can be very good. For GAA discussion gaaboard is much better than here but it does have a mainly northern viewpoint.
The technology and look on AFR is much more basic but thats to be expected as he wouldnt have the money that boards can pump in.
Posters are generally good here though some very amusing topics

I think this is the main strengths of AFR, the conversation is akin to one`s you would have in a pub with your friends, sports and particularly GAA would be the main topics spoken about, but any given night anything can be brought up and discussed.
But it would be very boring if GAA is all you ever spoke about, hence the other subjects as well, I like the site mainly because there does be good Hurling stuff talked, that is what would bring me to the site, but the other non sport stuff adds to it in a positive way as well.

The software is actually free for most of the main bulletin boards that you come across.

There is no user profile here on AFR, you cannot pm anyone here. No way of getting any info about any of the other posters, these things are all standatd on any other forum. Is there a function here that I`m not aware of for this ?

Would`ve thought that was a positive?
Preserves users identities/anonymity.
Also should there be any issues Mr.AFR Himself has All E-Mail Addresses, Log-In Details & ISPs I presume along with Phone Numbers or Addresses in some cases I`d imagine.
If you as a user wants Poster X to contact them you could always post up your` e-mail address for them to contact you?
Not ideal but I know which I prefer. Each to their` own & all that.

Most people don`t like putting their personal email address in the public domain.
PMs have been standard on forums for years.
Just because you wouldn`t want it, doesn`t make it wrong. Some people on this forum find it difficult to tolerate an alternative viewpoint.
