With all the talk of betting that goes on here. I`m curious to what would be the biggest gamble anyone has made here. I`m talking money put on an sport/event etc not "i bet you a million squid ill jump the river" or i was about to put 5k on a 2/7 but the bus broke down on the way,
Serious bets that were made and whether they came in or not and why decided to bet so much.
Mine was a 25 e/w and i was bricking it... thinking i was great with my crisp €50 note a man comes up behind me and bet €800 to win on some race! thankfully i won but i reckon thats chump change to most of ye??

Apart from p****zing away thousands on bank shares which I presume doesnt count, my biggest bet would be €100 on South Africa to beat the Lions by 11+ points in the third test. Needless to say, I didn`t win.

£60 on Moscow Flyer in the Queen Mother 5 years ago. He fell 3 out and you could hear a pin drop in Cheltenham.

€55 on Westmeath +15 against Wexford in the hurling league last year. They lost by four.
I have probably done bigger bets in running on betfair in the heat of the moment, had to give up that racket as it was costing me a lot of money!

Have a couple of low three figure bets, my biggest was 500 a long time ago. My friend worked in a trainers yard but steadfastly refused to ever give me a tip. Eventually he rang me up and gave me one and told me to go large on it as it was his first race and he was going to be a super horse.
Went to my local bookies who was instantly curious about it, as hes a good friend of mine. He put money on it himself across the road in PP
It was ran in a thick fog and he was romping away with it, miles ahead of the other horses. It came around to the last fence and you couldnt see past the fence for the fog, was waiting ages for him to appear jumping over it but he never appeared, b*****dddd fell on the previous one.
It was hilarious to my bookie friend as I have a history of bad luck, although i laughed about it later i was fuming that day

When the lotto came out first and there were 36 numbers I started analysing the numbers that came up.
We all know that there should be an equal chance of any number coming up – after a long period of time there would be one or two numbers that hadn’t come up ‘for ages’ so I started betting on these at odds of about 5/1 under the assumption that they were ‘long overdue’.
Started with about £10 and would add about £5 -£10 each week if it didn’t come up.
Occasionally it seemed easy, however things started to get hairy as I was putting on too much per week (up to £100 ) to keep ahead of the game and gave up when I got into profit.

Pi*ssed one night watching the darts and Ted Hankey I think was playing some Chinese guy who could barely hit the dartboard in the warm up. Rang up Paddy Powers and put €400 on Hankey at 1/4 winning 3-0. It came in but couldn`t believe I put the bet on when checking my online account.the next day.
Telephone/online betting is fooking dangerous when pi*ssed.
Biggest loss was on Hoh Mike in Newmarket 4 years ago. He was backed like he couldn`t lose. drop ped 2 ton on him at 4/5 and he came 7th of 9. Jamie Spencer hardly covered himself in glory that day either and have always resisted backing him when he`s riding a `sure thing`.

I am normally a 20\30 euro bet man but have had a few big bets, put 1500 euro on Sargeant Cecil to be placed in a race about 3 years ago which i lost.
My biggest win was a bet of 1000 antepost on Inglis Drever to win the world hurdle at 9\2.
Also laid Aran concerto that week in sunalliance hurdle took 800 euro at 5\2.

€400 euro on a double a few years back. Man Utd to beat Millwall in the FA cup final, and Celtic to beat Dunfirmline (i think ) in the Scottish Cup final. This was back when Celtic has a decent team (Larsson, Petrov etc ) . Dunfirmline went up 1-0 and all!!

Cheltenham 2007, Black Jack Ketchum was the horse being talked up by everyone, nobody gave anything else in the World Hurdle a chance. I was only after one horse tho and that was Inglis Drever, I loved the horse and was supremely confident. Having had a very hard think about it seeing as I was only 18 I eventually had the balls to have €1,000 on him. Everyone said I was mad to back it, I never told anyone what I had on it but they knew it was a few quid. I watched the race with all my mates, a good 10 of us in the pub, out of the 10 or so I was the only one who backed Drever, nearly all of them were on Black Jack Ketchum....Anyway, race goes off and the stomach was doing somersalts, next thing Black Jack goes down at the 2nd fence. When he went down I just had a feeling it was my day......Inglis Drever skated home in the World Hurdle and did me a nice little favour at 9/2.
He won at 9/2

He wouldn`t be having a bet in his local office on a point to point, nor would his bookie be backing it at paddy powers. His first race on a proper racecourse with betting available in a betting office could have been over fences.
when people refer to a horses first race it normally means his first raceourse appearance.
Please think before you post.

That`s sweet. I remember some punter in the paper having £15,000 on BJK to win the next three World Hurdles in 2006. Would you not have thrown him a few bob?

Put €100 on Kerry to win the Ireland last year after the Sligo game, when everyone was saying they were falling apart and hadnt a hope of winning anything!
Got Kerry at 9/2, will prob never be that big a price again!

look take your beating, any racing man would know what he meant,he probably ran a few point to points and showed to be a good thing so the word was out for him in his first race proper. Unfortunately you can`t see that so ill leave it at that.
look at any horses record and the amount of races he has run will only include racecourse proper, not any previous races.you obviously know nothing about racing.over and out.
