Excellent filmed report on Prime Time last night which, although only about 20 minutes long, as it had to share screentime with the Tallaght Hospital scandal, packed a wallop.

Perhaps given the billions of aid dollars that have been donated many people will feel everything possible is being done but in just one brief 10 second clip, reporter Keelin Shanley (? )  highlighted the nub of the current problem: the President of the local Chamber of Commerce statedto camera that landowners will have to be properly compensated for land that is required to build shelters for the estimated 1.5 Million people compensated.

Meanwhile, as indicated in a clip of the effects of a prolonged outburst, the hurrican season is only weeks away and the temporary tarpaulin shelters are pitifully inadequate to provide shelters against their destructive impact

I watched it last night and while I am not a big fan of Keelin Shanley I thought it was really excellent and she did a really good job in bringing the reality of the situation to screen.

It was in marked contrast to the recent Charlie Bird interview from Haiti which was far less insightful.

Had to really feel for the mother with the new born baby and her worries about its survival.

Also the Haiti officials and `government` have a lot to answer for, but unfortunately this will never happen.

Yeah, to be fair to her she really did `get down and dirty` with her experiences at the `tarpaulin` site
(I only ever saw Charlie hobnobbing with Denis O`Brien and Bill Clinton )

The thing about it is, also, is that many a station would do an hour long, or 90 minute programme and be far less effective

Give up in Somalia? If I recall correctly, the UN can`t really do much without US backing, and Clinton pulled the US out after Black Hawk Down. It`s been a festering cesspit for donkey`s years with no functioning government.
